This is something i've been wondering recently. I've been playing as Fiorentina the first season i came mid table (due to the 15 points deducted) otherwise i'd of got a champions league place. Second season I won Serie A fairly convincingly. I'm now at the end of my third season and i'm just trying to finish in the top 4, i've been stuggling with consistency.

I've been playing 442 diamond with the dm closing down often, whether i'm playing home or away, the idea being that he'd close down everyone before they got to my defence. creative freedom low and passing on the short side.

I'm thinking about changing this to closing down rarely, so that he stays in position more and doesn't go chasing players around the pitch.

I'd like to know what other FM07 player views on the role of DM in a diamond formation, Do you close down often/rarely?. If you set closing down rarely and creative freedom to low is he too stationary or does this work well?

I play a 4-3-3 formation with a DMC infront of the defensive line. And i have found that in my formation it workes best if he has a high closing down, around 15.

When i set the closing down to less then 10 he seems to drop to deep and get in line with the central defenders (using a mentality of 3 and 5 for the DC and about 5-7 for the DMC). When closing down is around 15 he stays infront of the defensive line and tries to break down the opposition attacks early, just the way i want him to do in my formation.

ALways always close down often with the DMC. Otherwise I can't see a point in having one, you might as well have another CB as far as I see it. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure DMC's are told to close down often and try and break up an attack. If they are caught out of position you still have your cb's. It worked for me with Hargreaves at Bayern, with high closing and heavy tackling.
