It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

I am glad to here some of you are having a go.

Just to let you know the league run has come to an end. I lost 2-1 at home to Sutton Utd.

They play a short passing, slow tempo, 4-4-2 formation and have a determined defence.

I also noticed that they were the favourites and that the media prediction for Sutton was 1st.

I approached the game as follows:

Team formation 4-4-2
Team Mentality = 13
Team Passing = 7
Team Tempo = 7
Team Pressing = 10
Team D-Line = 9

My team were on a good run and I felt that as we were at home we could take the game to Sutton.

Now although we lost, the match stats were as follows:

Welling Stats Sutton
8 Shots 8
2 On 4
54% Pos 46%
68% Pass 54%
22% Cross 25%
48% Tackling 74%
57% Headers 51%

All my players were rating 7, except my keeper who was at fault for Suttons 2nd goal in the 83rd minute.

The only disappoint ment was the quality of my tackling.

But I am upbeat, it was a close game and every run must come to an end sometime.

Leroy1883

when you said " team passing 8" it is global passing or not? Every 10 players are on team passing?

Hi Gabi80,

In Team Instructions I am setting my passing Style to 8 (Mixed).

Now the only Individual Instructions I set for my player are on my DC's who I set to 13(Direct)(Direct) and my strikers who I set to 7(Mixed).

I do this because I want my DC's to get rid of it as they do not have the quality to choose a good short pass.

When my strikers have the ball I do not want them to hit it long as they should be quite high up the pitch anyway.

in my first 3 season with lancaster my form has always been up and down, but playing this way im really seeing a diffenence early on (hopefully it will contiune).

so far ive played 9 in the league, won 6 drawn 2 and lost 1. i got battered 3-0 in the one i lost. ive also scored 13 golas and conceded just 4.

im used to getting outplayed by about a quater of the teams in the league, but doing this has meant that now im in almost every game or dominating it and im also creating better chances getting more shots on target.

im also the USA manager and although ive not got scout reports (can you get them for a international team?) i look at the team im playing and their players, and ill pick a certain style depending on wether i think i will win easily, find difficult to win or expect a battering.

loving this thread so far Leroy1883 keep it up.

well i just missed out on the playoff on goal difference, the last few games went a bit wrong after i got knocked out of the fa trophy in the quater finals in a game a dominated but just couldnt score. after getting knoked out i came up againt a few of the better teams in the league which i lost and i could get moral back up quick enough

leroy1883 what do you do when you have a team very low on moral? do you look to play a more defensive game than usual?

i played 42 games, won 19 drew 13 and lost 10. i scored 59 and conceded 49

Hi ROO,

Funny you should mention morale as I was just going to write about that in my next update.

I lost away in the FA trophy to Exeter 2-1. This didn't appear to affect the morale too much although a few players, were now very good rather than superb. I then had to play Sutton as posted previously. Having lost 2-1 at home the morale droped a bit lower again.

Now the next game was vs Havent away in the FA Trophy. Having played them at home first game of the season 0-0 I was suprised to see them play a shorter possession game this time.

I went 2-0 down before uping the temp and playing more direct coming back to win 4-2, thanks to a marvellous hatrick from Che Stadhart my top scorer.

Looking at the match stats, Havent had13 shots, 8 on target. I had 7 shots 4 on target. Possesion was 50-50. My players had 7's or 8's and a 9 for Che, except my CB's who both had 5's.

I think this was mainly due to playing games in quick sucession and having not gotten the results a drop in team morale. I went on to draw the next 2 games 1-1 and then lost 2-1 to Hayes. I managed to scrape a 1-0 other East Thurrock away in the Trophy and decided it was time to review the way I was playing.

I went through each players individual instructions looking to see if there was anything amiss. I basically followed the tips from Marc Vaughan for player settings and set the back 4 + keeper to Mentality 5. The rest of the team would play with team mentality and team creative freedom was set to 5.

The result Welling 8-1 vs Lewes. I had 12 shots 9 on target. Lewes had 3, one on target.

So far in my season

Pld 19 Won 14 Drn 3 Lst 2 For 43 Ag 18

Anyway back to the point, If morale drops then it is important to know who are the most reliable players in your team. You can tell this by looking at form and I usually go on average rating. Also try to pick your more experienced players they are the once that should give you an increase in form. You could also look for determination as a good indicator.

I would try not to pick a player with morale below any lower than 'Okay' although this may not be possible.

Not sure how big of an acheivement it is but ive just finished 4th with the USA in the 2010 World cup (after loosing 4-3 on penalties to Italy in the semi final) and it never really happened in the 3rd/4th place playoff.

my next season with lancaster 2010/2011 started off as good as it could have i think i lost 2 games, one to the 1st placed club (im 2nd) and after going on a 10 or 11 game unbeaten run to a mid table club in a game we dominated.

so far ive been playing far better than last season having loads of shots around 15 or 20) in a number of games, partly due to some loan players from my new feeder club blackburn.
the only problem i have is comming across relegate conference teams, they always dominate possesion and shots, although i do get lucky and scrape draws and narrow wins at times.

Anyway after a great world cup and a great start to the leage with lancaster. the Brighton job became available so i applied for it and got it. there in league one rock bottom after 18 games and have only won 2 games and have a team with all there players on very low moral. so it going to be a decent challenge even though they do have a good team.
