I am still playing FM 2007 and at Xmas every season I start to look at the players whose contracts expire in 6 months time to try and grab a few freebies, but every year some of the players I shortlist do not have the option 'Approach to sign' even though there contracts are up in less than 6 months time. I cannot see any reason why this option is not available. Some are from England some are from abroad, some are over 24 some are under 24, I cannot see any pattern as to why I cannot sign them, & then with around a month to go until their contract expires someone comes in for them and signs them on a bosman! The team can even be in the same division as me. Is this a bug or can someone offer an explanation as it is driving me mad. Thanks in advance.
You can only start to negotiate with a player playing in the nation you are managing in 6 weeks before their contract ends. Players from abroad you can speak to 6 months before contract expiry.
That explains a lot thanks, but I want to sign 2 players from Shakter Donesk & 1 from Dinamo Kiev and again it does not have the 'Approach to sign' box for them either. Are there particular rules for these countries as well?
