Default I actually won a contract

I have been playing FM08 now since it came out and each time i would start being my favorite team Newcastle and each time my contract would not be renewed. Finally i have be rewarded. In previous FM this has never been a problem has any body else found FM08 expectation high some times too high!!!! i think you should be given straight away a 5 year contract as it can take that long to build a team of greatness...

I disagree. If Rangers got an unproven young manager in, I'd expect them to give them a 2 year deal at the most. Giving them a 5 year deal would be a bit extreme - especially if they don't know exactly how he'll perform.

i agree with you both for some teams expectations are too high , for example Leeds' three year plan is win the coca cola championship and u start the game with -15 at bottom of league one ,but the realism is like caley said an unproven manager would not get a large contract at such a big club like newcastle

Definitely the confidence is set too high. In real life, especially in the Premiership, manager contracts hardly ever expire, yet it's not uncommon for there to be three or four casualties each year from contract expiration at the end of the season.

Although a five year contract would make the game simpler to play, for the sake of realism, a two year contract is all I would expect.

And, ironically, the two managers in my current season game (10 years in) that have kept their job since the start of the game are Sam Allardyce and Steve McClaren.

It depends on the charactor of the chairman i suppose. I started a game with Charlton as a rookie and they handed me a 5 year deal. Whereas my mate joined WBA as an ex international and only got a two year deal.
