Everytime i goto install MCFM v0.5.0 i get this message...

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assitance"

Well im not running the computer in safe mode neither do I know my support personnel.

Any ideas about this problem and how to fix it?

download and reinstall the windows installer:

All that baloney about support personnel is designed for large companies who employ IT Technicians, (or Tea Boys as actual programmers call them).

If you already have Windows Installer 3.1 as zeuth7 kindly pointed you to, you may want to check your services to see if it's been disabled.

To do this, go to the Start Menu, then click 'Run' and type 'services.msc' (without the ' ' s).

Scroll down the list until you arrive at Windows Installer. Look to the right. There is a 'Startup Type' column which has one of the three following values:
Disabled
Manual
Automatic

The Windows Installer service should ONLY be 'Manual'. It shoulsn't be Disabled as you wouldn't be able to install *.msi files. It shouldn't be 'Automatic' either as that would cause an unnecessary drain on system resources. And besides, you aren't installing something for every minute of every day are you?!

If it is set to one of these values (Disabled or Automatic) then do the following:
<LI>Select the Windows Installer row (left click on the 'Windows Installer' text).
<LI>Right click the selected area and choose 'Properties' (should be bold).
<LI>In the screen which pops up, you will see the 'Startup Type' option, change this to 'Manual' and click 'OK'.
<LI>Once finished, exit Services. Don't be tempted to change any other values unless you know what you're doing. Changing them CAN seriously screw up your system. I can't stress this enough!
