You need shed loads of ram to run it quickly, even on my pc ( 2gig athlon, 1gig ram) it can take 2-3 seconds to change between fields.

Anyway...
They're right. It's slow because you have a slow computer or lots of processes running at once.
If you cannot afford to buy a new computer here's something you may want to try...
BE WARNED... BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST
<LI>Using a Startup manager (Win XP Manager springs to mind), change all of the startup processes to your profile (current_user).
<LI>Create a new user.
<LI>Log off and log onto the new profile.
<LI>Start up the editor and edit away.
This should make it quicker as your new profile does not have any programs to load up on startup.
Good luck. And be careful. You may want to transfer the startup programs ba :pck to whichever users owned them.
I'm not going to be held responsible if you break your computer though! :p

Couldn't SI just use a pre-game editor like the one made by Michael Nygreen which could do everything and loaded in 7-10 seconds. I'm sure this could be done as i read on these forums that he joined SI not long ago?

IIRC the interface and everything are already there to use in the editor, so it is much easier to make an editor.
This editor is actually faster than the previous one, it is just that the database has grown significantly so that its improvements are not really felt.
Michael will fill everyone in with exactly what goes on, I'm sure.

Actually, RAM isn't that expensive anymore, it is usually a viable option to upgrade if you intend to do a lot of editing.
