Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Im Everton, first game of season away to Chelsea. Obviously, thinking negative already that Im going to lose with their squad to mine and the fact it is at stamford bridge.

Just wondering what everyones tactics are for these type of games?

Do you get men behind the ball and try and counter or just go out and play normal game and attack and try and beat them??

In real life you would normally get men behind the ball, play 5 in midfield, just wondering if this actually works on FM?

if tactic is working, u are winning most games then stick with it, if u win some lose some, then u might consider counterattacking.
personally i never change, no matter who i play as, or against.

In 2006 and also in 2007, I have always adopted 2 tactics. A Home and an Away.

Home tactic I have as attacking football, keep the visitors on the back foot, and putting some hard tackles in to keep them nervous. Remember you have the backing of your fans behind you also.

Away I tend to be a little more cautious, as you said, an extra man in midfield to break their attacks down. Also consider playing a bit narrower to keep things tight. As opposed to being at home you like to play with width and open up the opposition.

The best advice is to go with your own gut instinct, if it works fantastic  if it doesn't, ask yourself what went wrong. If you only lose 1-0, you can safely say that you put up a good fight. Get a thrashing, and I'd go back to the drawing board and rethink.

The only occassion I would be happy to use one set of tactics is when I feel I have the best players in the league. Which isn't often.

Good luck, and just keep testing

Play fairly negative football until the 60th or 70th minute. If you're ahead, adopt an even more negative approach. If you're drawing or behind, adopt a shock and awe approach - all out attacking wide football for a few minutes and play the game in full. You can often catch the ai off guard and nick a goal. Revert back to negative if the tactic seems to be failing or if you've gone ahead.
