Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default a 442 tactic: a possible solution or another disaster?

Hello all,

while i understand that now many of the current forum members are playing the latest version of FM, i am still playing the 2006 version. And sadly despite the many threads and tests i have tried, i am still rather disappointed with the performance of my tactic.

And i was hoping that there would be anyone who would be kind enough to help take a look at my tactic: its a basic 442 tactic with alterations made the individual and team instructions.

I understand that since i am using the outdated version already, that response will probably be poor, but i was still hoping someone would provide a helping hand.

the few positives of my tactic is that sometimes they produce outstanding results, but mostly i am disappointed with the way it make smy team play: too many directed balls into the air; not exactly long balls played but directed passes that are elevated so the opposition defenders have a clean sweep to head it all away.

I always try to emulate the way the AI sets out its 442 which seems very fluid; especially the strikers. they would always come back to defend deep and able to exhibit brilliant interplay with the whole team in general. SOmehow i just cant emulate this.

If someone is kind enough to help enlighten me, and also on how to upload my tactic. i would be very grateful

cheers

just as a hint, try the 4-4-2, winger arrows pointing up half way. Leave it dont change of the bars. continue for a little while. change the tactics as the game unfolds, if you 1-0 down and on top, go attacking and move your defensive line up. If your 1-0 up with 10 mins to go defensive, defend deeper and time waste.

you wil be fine

thanks for the quick reply TrueBlade.

What i do not seem to understand is why my players keep attempting to lob a ball towards a fellow teammate most of the time when a ball to feet would have meant possession would have been kept better. I understand that what could lead to such a scenario is that the players are too far apart from each other and their mentalities should be adjusted. However the mentalities of the players i have set are already adequately close to each other:

central defenders: 6
fullbacks: 8
defensive central midfielder: 8
attacking central midfielder: 10
wingers: 12
strikers: 13 and 15

So why are the players still lobbing the ball too much? what really bothers me is that there are players who are free to receive the ball, instead the ball is passed to another who is marked and is then easily muscled off the ball?
