Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default How many custom training schedules do you create and use?

Playing CM and FM in the past, I've always created quite a lot of schedules for different types of players. I used to like the training in CM 4 and Season 03/04 where you'd build schedules over 3 stages of the day for the whole week, here's an example. This meant you could have the whole squad training together at certain parts of the week, and then working on individual areas for the remainder.

When starting a new game, the schedules I usually build include:-

None (for long-term injuries)

Recovery (light training for those recovering from injuries)

Pre-Season (for the whole squad, including goalkeepers)

GK (for goalkeepers)

Tactics (for centre halves, full backs, wing backs and defensive midfielders)

Skills (for midfielders, wingers and attacking midfielders)

Shooting (for centre forwards and strikers)

Fitness (for players returning from long-term injuries, or players with poor physical stats)

Usually similar ones are created for Part-Time and Youth players as well, but they're are restrictions on training these types of players.

Also add on top of this new positional training, depending where certain players are suited to, which feet they prefer, their existing stats etc.

Looking at the schedules above, I could break down some even further, but the schedules usually improve the players' stats as required. The training rate and intensity for each schedule is biased towards the type of schedule in order to improve players' stats in key areas.

Cant see how this could be improved on at all. I usually have 6 schedules by position- GKs, Full backs, DCs, Wingers, Midfielders and Strikers and allocate the players according to their position.

I'm thinking about creating a few additional schedules to make positional training more specific for FM2007. EG, splitting the fullbacks, wingbacks and defensive midfielders from the Tactical schedule, splitting the wingers and attacking midfielders from the Technical Skills schedule, and also creating a new schedule for goalkeepers during Pre-Season.

Each could then be assigned to a specific schedule, and would be biased depending upon what the position concentrates on, EG wingers ---> control, technique, dribbling, pace, stamina, crossing, set pieces, off the ball, anticipation etc.

I just use 3 (Fwd, Mid, Def) .. ok, 4 if you consider GK position ..

Reason is just like in CM4 .. they spend more time training together.

Works for me.

Created some new schedules for FM2007, they're really split off from the ones listed in the first post. Here's an updated list:

OF Pre-Season (intensive pre-season training for outfield players)

GK Pre-Season (intensive pre-season training for goalkeepers)

None (for long-term injuries)

Recovery (light training for players recovering from injuries)

GK (goalkeeper bias schedule for goalkeepers)

CH Tactics (defensive / tactical bias for centre halves)

FB Tactics (defensive / tactical bias for full backs)

DM Skills (defensive / tactical bias for defensive midfielders)

CM Skills (technical bias for central midfielders)

AM Skills (attacking / technical bias for attacking midfielders)

W Skills (attacking / technical bias for wingers / wide players)

CF Shooting (attacking / shooting bias for centre forwards and strikers)

GK Fitness (physical bias for goalkeepers)

OF Fitness (physical bias for outfield players)

Don't forget to double up and do the same for the youth players..the training programmes for them can be specifically targetted too.

Played cm since o1-02 but i have always not really known what to do when creating a training schedule for my players. The only time i attempted it was on 06 with little success. What should i be trying to do basically? Is there a dummies guide to training anywhere?
