2007-2008 - Basingstoke Town - Blue Square South
Board&Fans: Avoid relegation & establish club in the division. Media: 19th.
In the preseason, I send out the scouts and we pick up 3 trialists who all do well in friendlies, and are signed.
Season starts ok, but then goes into freefall in October. Poor form continues until the end of November, when a team meeting and new tactics seem to work. Wrong, we win 1 game, then the rot returns. When the transfer window opens in January, we bring in a GK & defender on loan from Wycombe. Form improves slightly for the rest of the season, and we finish in 15th.
Final Position: 15th(P42 W15 D11 L16 GD-3 Pts56).
Cups: Crap.
EURO 2008: England managed to qualify. Germany won the trophy.
2008-2009 - Basingstoke Town - Blue Square South Board&Fans: Establish club in the division. Media: 14th.
A season of change. 8 players are given free transfers during the end of season break. This frees up wages, and I set about rebuilding the core of the team with loans and frees.
Preseason is shaky as the team gel. The season itself gets off to a good start, and I like what I'm seeing from my new players. Inevitably, consistency drops. How can you have 20 shots on goal in a match and not score?!
Mid-October; a scandal breaks. The AssMan had hoodwinked me into signing a few dud players, as he reveals he couldn't tell the difference between a 2 legged dog and a star player. I immediately give him the sack.
Form picks up surprisingly. The second half of the season continues well, away form especially. We secure 4th spot, and go into the Play Offs.
Our semi-final is against Hitchin, who beat us twice in the league. First leg is at home, and we go down 2-1. Going into the second leg, I ask the team to get a result for the fans. They deliver! Our top scorer bags 4 goals. 4-1 final score, 5-3 agg win. Final!
The final sees us take on Margate. A red card on 44mins, and we're down to 10 men. However, we take the lead in the second half. Margate peg us back to 1-1. Then on 87 minutes, Margate have the ball in the back of the net! To our relief, the ref signals offside. Into extra time, and we somehow score twice. 3-1. We're going up!!!!!
Final Position: 4th(P42 W21 D7 L14 GD8 Pts70)
Play Off Winner; Promotion!!!
Cups: Crap.

The finances of the club are in a right mess. I can sense either a sacking or a 10-point deduction this season.
I dabble in the transfer market to try and bolster the squad for the challenge of BSP. Some old faces are released, and I also hire new coaches to focus on defending and attacking.
We have a reasonable start to the season, but the slip down the table is inevitable. Players start turning in poor performances, which results in a crackdown. I decide that players with a rating of 5 or less will now get 3 warnings, then a 1 wk fine, then a 3 wk fine, then The Order of the size 10.
January comes around, and we're in 20th position - safe, but looking over our shoulders. I sack 4 underperformers (they were warned!), and bring in more firepower. Form gets going in the right direction, and we hang on with our fingernails, finishing 19th.
The board consider my position for a couple of weeks, and finally offer me a new 2 year contract. Will I accept, or will I turn it down? Find out next update!
Final Position: 19th(P46 W14 D10 L22 GD-10 Pts52).
Cups: Crap.
