Yeap, I think I'll put away FM 2008. I've just had enough and after starting games and keeping going, it occured to me that all this is basically a chore, I can't seem to have fun without pulling my hair out.
I've tried to play teams for the easy leagues to the tough leagues but it all boils down to the same conclusion. I've read most tactical threads, experimented, did trial and errors but I can't seem to find the consistency and am always left disappointed.
No offense to the SI boys, they did a massive good job in creating a realistic football management game. Kudos to them.
Thanks for the sweet memories to SI for the past CM/FM games that was so addictive, I kept thinking about it even when I was at work.
It didn't work for me but I hope I'm one of the minorities though. It's really a good game.
i think SI need to make a game where it is possible to sign the best players easily, win every game and every cup and have a gold statue of themselves outside the stadium.
i mean this management simulation stuff is rubbish, why would i want that?
I felt the same at one point, and many have gone back to previous versions of the game.
Personally, I have had one really enjoyable game on this version, with Barcelona, and it has lasted over 2 seasons now (I know it isn't a lot, but it is by far the longest I have played for on FM08).
It might be worth taking a look over in the Challenges/Sign-up forum. I find running a Sign-up, or taking part in a challenge, much more fun than taking over any other teams. But that might just be me.
After giving up on my first long-term save on FM08 after the Confidence bug bit me I found it really hard to get into another game because I sucked and no matter how many ideas I had of who to be I couldn't get hooked in.
I found I had a decent Irish league game starting with the lowest team Wexford but after six years I realised I wasn't really taking them or my new club Limerick anywhere so kind of grew fed up. I wasn't getting beaten each week like I was when I tried being bigger teams but the lack of progress meant I was just playing the same teams and finishing in the same position despite changing players and tactics.
After that I found it hard to get into it again until I started a game with Dumbarton in the Scottish Third Division and without much tactical adjustment, just playing LLM style, I have really gotten into this game and am in my fourth season. So I can't really pinpoint where I fell back in love but for me when I'm struggling I find it best to choose a team with no real expectations and just start from scratch and if you fail it's no big problem but the only way to go is up.
Also, who knows, with the new patch and game engine things may start to fall into place for you so maybe it's worth just giving it one more go just to see if the changes make any difference.
I'm going back to FM07 too. It's a shame really because I very rarely go back to an earlier version of a game, any game. The confidence not being fixed has bugged me big time.
I gave up long time ago. It's seems to me, that this version of FM was only half done, when they released it. So many bugs that should have been noticed during the beta testing, and wasn't even fixed until 8.02.
I had, strangely enough, high expectations to 8.02. Thought that finally I could play my beloved FM. But where's the no data patch? Not even included? One would say that I could play with 8.01 database, but that doesn't fix some of the player errors does it??? Believe it or not, some of us do want to play with the "season opener team", without january transfers. Once again, I feel scr*wed.
For the first time ever, have I really thought about joining the enemy, and start playing CM. that's how far out I am.
Maybe SI should take a years break, and give us a FM 2010, that doesn't need tons of fixing after release. Just my opinion.
