Hi,
Especially at the lower level clubs, i'm finding that every response gets a negative reaction, or more negatives than positives. possibly because of the lower hidden stats of players...

Media interaction and team-talks are a hornet's nest.
Here's what I do:
If team moral is good, I never make any media comments before a match. Same with team talks: only give encouragement to players with low moral and restrict praise to exceptional performances. As for the rest of the team, I tell them nothing! Seems to be working.

A always make media comments, generally giving what seems like the lower positive comment (ie of the two positive comments the least positive). Before games team talks are always up-beat "you can win", "I expect a win") with certain key players given responsibility to perform. Half time is always optimistic - "you can win" etc... - or positive if winning and full time is alway sympathetic if we lose or complimentary (did well) if we win - with key players singled out for praise.
The aim is two fold (1) star players, who can deal with pressure, perform and are examples to the other players and (2) when I do get angry at h/time or f/time (3/4 times a season) it has a lot more gravitas. Also remember to praise some of the supporting cast if they are having a good season between games. Seems to keep morale really high (as does winning!).

I always praise the team and say that they can win, just change which option depending on who i'm playing. This seems to give them a confidence boost. Team talks wise I usually ask the ass man but if I think it's wrongI change it.
I always argue with decisions as well, dunno if anyone else has tried it but it seems to build morale, but I never slate another team because more players think I have acted unprofessionally than agree with me.

to the OP I would say that if in the majority of cases the choices you are making are having a negative effect then do the opposite. If you've been saying you expect a win in matches where you are heavy favourite, then try the no pressure approach 'I don't mind as long as they play to my tactics'.
If that still doesn't work then Neyles suggestion is the best approach to media. Don't rock the boat when the ship's steady

I don't experience this problem as I stopped responding to the media after about an hour of its' introduction several versions ago.
In each version I have "had a look and play" when first installing the game and decided each that it's about as deep as a puddle and as logical as a cast-iron parachute.
Maybe, when this area is improved sufficiently for me to use it, I will sign up.
