If you're starting a new game and have edited the database to fix the Defoe issue, note that you have to do the real name editing in the saved database.

It is located at /My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2008/db/[saved DB]/Inc/

I did what Miles said as regards to the Defoe change in the editor, and i saved it as '8.0.2 Update'.

Now when i start a new game, i have two 8.0.2 options, the official one, and the one that i have just saved. Is this right, and which one do i use?

Also, i've no idea what this real name editing thing means.

You might wish to do the same for Diarra, before beginning your new game. There's a thread in this section called How To Fix The Diarra Error.

The one you saved and called by a different name, in your case = 8.0.2 Update.

I think it has to do with the Germany issue, where SI are not allowed to use real names for German players in their national team (or something like that). The workaround for this isn't exactly legal, so that posters here cannot spell out exactly what they mean. At least, that's what I've come up with after doing some sniffing around when nobody would answer my original question.

Try googling "Germany FM 2008 real" or something like that, for advice on other forums.

You should save it as something else. I save mine for example as "8.0.2 edit"

The only things that will change is what you've changed in the editor. You've just made it hard to choose which one is correct...

However rather than editing again go into:

\\documents\sports interactive\football manager 08\db

and change the name of the database file there.
