Should the expectations be limited to the league and not cup competitions as i doubt any board would be annoyed at a manager if he only won the domestic league. Seems a bit strange to be expected to reach the final of every cup, I mean people like Arsene Wenger IRL has not won too much recently but would not be sacked. Big Sam when he was at Bolton didn't have to win the league and cups to stay in his job.
Mourinho might have been sacked for not delivering the Champions League depending on what papers you believe. All cup competitions are pretty much a bonus in my opinion and you should not be expected to win them all.
I have won the Premier League 3 times in a row with Sunderland since signing a 5 year contract with expectations of winning premier league in a 2 year plan. But guess what it says that I have not met their expectations within the specified time scale, even though I have won it every year since the beginning of the contract. So is this system floored and at the moment I get the feeling I will not have my contract re newed at the end of it. If this happens I may begin to lose faith in the games ability to supply me with a long term game, although I could be wrong and be offered a new contract.
So do you think 90 percent of you being offered a new contract should depend on just your league perfermance.

It should mainly be on league performance. However, if you underperform in the league but for example win the FA Cup, winning the cup could save your job.

If you get in Europe, I think it should be another expectation to qualify through the group stages, given your squad quality and the quality of opponents. E.G., if you're Chelsea, you should be expected to make it through the group stages, but if you've just had a good season with say, Newcastle and you get put in a group with AC Milan, Bayern and Real Madrid, you wouldn't be expected to progress through the group.

Personally I think that cup expectations are rough as you never know who you are going to draw. Hey if Man U and Chelsea draw each other in the 4th round, one of them gets beat. I like the match by match expectations and how it effects confidence, wouldn't mind this effecting more than cups do now. If you are Arsenal and get beat by Woking, you should get your rear chewed by both fans and ownership.
