Default A Ter Interview

Recently Sortitoutsi.net interviewed Ter, and he provided us with some good answers regarding the questions put to him

Here is a little bit of it

Quote:
FM2005 hasn't seen many new original skins, perhaps because it is a bit more daunting than previous games, will there be any areas where it can be made easier for people?

I don't believe that the skinning in FM is more daunting than our previous games, the opposite actually. We've got rid of a lot of the 4 letter abbreviations like 'stks' and replaced them with English like 'stick_to_sides_attachment'. We've also put all the colour information into two colour xml files to keep all that together. It's much easier to understand than before.

Dipping into the XML files can be a bit daunting, but people shouldn't be afraid of going in and having a mess around (unless they are NOT working from backups then may many spiders come and visit them while
they sleep). It is something that does take a bit of time to get used to and understand. Even I don't understand a lot of it and have to ask for help every now and again, but the best way of doing something is to find
an area of the game where it is done already and find where it is done in the XML files and you'll have a rough idea of how it's done by having an example there in front of you.

The skinning side of things isn't going to change a lot for next version I don't think, but I don't really know what the plans are for that side of things at the moment, but nothing drastic. Feel free to make any suggestions on the forums though and I'll pass them on if they are relevant.

Ter i read your interview.

2 things

1. Hairspray works better than Lynx on spiders, its a kinda glue so sticks 'em better (plus the spray is better)

2. Try using a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment, you can suck spiders up from a distance then (plus the sound of them banging up the tube is somewhat satisfying !! lol)
