Please don't go sharing that link. I don't want Daigle on my back telling me what an awful person I have been.

Right... Step by step:

Note:For you, the 'CProgram Files\SI\' part might be different.

Go to
CProgram Files\SI\Football Manager 2005\data\db\

Zip up the following files:
client_db.dat
lang_db.dat
people_db.dat
pl_hist_dt.dat
pl_hist_id.dat
pl_hist_index.dat
server_db.dat

The update may not overwrite all of these files but you can never be safe enough!

Extract your db to the same directory as above.

Once extracted, start new game.

Sorry for being so dumb but how do you 'zip' up a file?

Assuming you have Windows XP, you select all of the files, right click, choose 'Send To...' --> Compressed Folders.

Or if you use WinRar... right click and 'add to xxx.zip/rar'.

After an MSN conversation with gazzatafc, I maybe should point out to anyone else I direct to this thread that you should have winRAR (or another RAR extractor) installed before you try to decompress the update!

Another word of advice... Make sure you're computer literate before attempting this.

If you don't understand the basic principles of zipping and unzipping files then I recommend getting a book to read about it. Windows for Dummies is undoubtably a popular choice.

Further more, make sure you have WinRAR installed and make sure you have the 5.0.5 patch installed.

Okay so can somebody tell me what i'm doing wrong....

1st: I took all that were in "Program Files\SI\Football Manager 2005\data\db\data/db" extracted them, then put them in "My Documents". So now my ...data/db folder is empty.

2nd: I downloaded the the FM Finland update to my "Program Files\SI\Football Manager 2005\data\db\data/db"

3rd: I run FM and i ge the "Can't load database" error and can't start a new game.

Help, What am i doing wrong. i have Windows XP if it makes a difference. And i am pretty Computer literate.

I don't know if this is supposed to happen or what but when i download the update it has an icon that looks like the interent explorer e. It's like windows want's me to open it using the internet??

I'm sure it should just say ....... data\db

Why remove them and put them into your "My documents"?? You should just extract the FMFinland update into the db folder and overwrite the the old database. If you want to move the old database I would put them somewhere else, maybe a temp folder.

You have to start a new game for the update to take effect.

And to quote someone from another thread. Make sure your game has been updated to version 5.0.5
