PLaying with Spurs isnt as easy as it looks (Big Topic!!!)
Hello.
I am Matt 19yrs old. been playing Championship manager/Football manager for 10 years.
This is my First disscussion where i am offering advise to new and young fm players.
I am Currently Tottenham hotspurs because i think they have a decent Sqaud in Depth and i am going to try and put pressure on the leading 4 teams in Prem 1st season hoping by 2008/09 i will be One of the best Teams in Prem and in Europe.
1) Choosing who to play.
I think if anyone has played tottenham recently the gk and defence are quite easy to select, Of course in goal Paul Robinson has to be Number 1 unless with the 14m spending money you buy a better one which i cant see you buying one better, however the 14m might come handy for a defender. the wing back positions are straight forward left back sees compition between lee pyo, ziegler, ekotto makes that interesting, personally i prefer pyo as he gets up forward and crossing is better, but i like to see ziegler as a backup for the left wing position. RB see's Chimbonda defend his postion against Paul Stalteri, for me Chimbonda is better as he also gets up the pitch and i belive offers more options than stalteri and more class, however Stalteri is a handy replacement and should never be sold for little money. As for the centre-backs There a few really first class players there, however some over-rated and thin on the ground on number of centre backs. Obvisly King is the "King-pin" of the defence and good Captain but as for a patner who offers something King Doesn't like Quick pace, that agrssive little buger who shy's form no man or no tackle with better desition making and postioning, spurs lacks a Defensive Bulldog, with dawson, gardner and davenport the options i think Dawson is over-rated and on fm07 by 2009 championship team buys him for 1.5m, gardner doesnt have the class to hold down first team place (sell) and davenport is still learning his trade and would suit to be on loan where he can get 1st team football in lower divition, i reccomend buying a defensive bulldog, However one player i am excited about on this game Tom Huddlestone ( as a Big Derby County Fan i watched him go from a big young lad to a big young man in 3 years, and as my Best Freind went to school with him, i am plaesed to see him doing well in this game) a future star. as a dc or dmc or even mid playmaker.
In Midfield you find real strength in depth on the right hand side with Lennon, malbranque, Jenas. All three good technicle players with malbraque having more expreince would be suited for big games, if away and want to keep it tight away to chelsea or man utd, Steed will be more experinced and will not get too far up pitch and out of postion than Lennon and Jenas would. Centre Mids you see either dmcs or amc's so that shouts out a diamond formation, with the dmcs postion fought out by, Huddlestone (#1 for me) Davids, Zakora,Ghalli (never impressed me) and Taino solid performer. as for amc's Murphy who wroks hard no frill's is someone i would have to pick over, taino (more suited to defending) jenas, and malbraque.
Now we get To the tricky part. The Forwards.
I am sure Loads of you have your own opion of who they should play and who is more suited together, well here is how i see it.
Martin Jol's makes no secret that he likes to play one target man and one little man. He is both Right to do this and also Wrong. I think it depends on a few things:
1) who you are playin
2)what fomation they are playing
3)how and who they are playing in defensive ie, height, streth, heading, and pace.
If your playing chelsea at chelsea with Keane and Defoe up top, and you got your team instructions on Long balls. Terry and Carvalho are gonna have an easy game.
If your playing a team who has 3 centre backs i like to play on the ball, to run on to, so defoe and keane can run on to, but only if the defenders are lacking pace,
you might come up to a team with cenrte back with poor strght and height and heading, where i prefer to play mido or Berbatov as target men to nod on to defoe or keane.
So to finsh.
if good team away from home play 1 or even 2 target men. aagainst tall strong defece. = mido + berbatov
if not so good team with big but poorer defenders with little pace, play direct ball to feet and players to run on too = defoe and keane
if you wanna mix things up with one big man and one little have your big man as a target (to head) and have your little fox in the box having forward runs and maybe free role and much creavie freedom.
HOpe you find this topic helpfull if you want to ask any questions please do,
Do you agree with what i have said.
Please relpy,
Cheerrs

Yeah I pretty much agree with what your saying. I am in Jan 07 with spurs, had a mixed season. Currently 8th and in 5th round of FA Cup. Berbatov has been a sensation scoring 15 in 23 so far but this has put Keanes nose out of joint and he has asked to leave. I have signed Anthing Vanden Borre who is emense in DC and RB but he is whinging abit about my team talks. I am finding these team talks a pain in the arse to be fair, they have caused many dressing room probs which I don't think have been fair. Anyway will hopefully win something but am loving the game so far. Other good sigings have been Freddy Adu (obvious) and Alex from Fenerbache althou he's ben hit and miss. Mokeana who is South African is good signing too and thats all i've signed and am using the default squad, it's a good one. Anyway let me know your thoughts and how your getting on. Take care............... Jigga

I have just completed my first season on FM2007 with Tottenham and had a relatively good season. I finished 2nd in the Premier League, runner up in the FA cup and quarter finals of the UEFA (going out on penalties). I have used 442 (either as flat 4-4-2 or as 4-1-3-2) varying tactics slightly depending on the opponent or if the match was H or A. I made only 1 signing in that season and that was Leighton Baines. I offloaded Malbranque almost immediately and played with Zeigler on the left (who ended up as Fans player of the year), Lennon on the right with Huddlestone or Zakora and Jenas in the centre. I did tend to play with big guy/little guy up front sometimes using the big fwd as a target man.
I have never really been as meticulous with my tactics (usually download so called super tactics and use them) but this version I have gone out and really worked on using my on tactic and making the most of FM07. I think Tottenham are a fairly easy side to pick-up-and-play with, they have good experienced players and a lot of talented youngsters who can step up a grade early on and play to a good standard. There is also a lot of adaptability within the squad (ie Jenas centre or wing, Lennon either wing, King defence or DM, Huddlestone any where in the Ctr even Keane as AM).Any other Tottenham users out there with their style of play, hints?

I have a Spurs game, where I won every tournament in which I participated, in the first season (League Cup, PL, FA Cup and UEFA Cup). The team is a bit too strong.
I played a diamond formation, build on the RoT system. I had 4 versions of the system depending on weather, scoreline and such. Two systems with a direct style and two systems with a very direct style.
I immediately sold Chimbonda (£9m), Tainio (£3m), Keane (£15m), Ghaly(£500k), and Malbranque (£5m).
Gardner is a great defender in the game. Just as good as King. Defoe scores for fun. Mido is probably the best striker Spurs have(!). Lennon is OK, but I loaned him out after the first season. He doesn't have enough jumping for the most effective types of tactics.
