Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Newcastle tactic

Hey everybody, i just finished my first season with Newcastle United, ending up 6th with luck. I just can't find a solid tactic, can't play consistently. I play a flat 4-4-2 and I wanna play a sort of powerplay (especially at home), 'fight football', with a lot of closing down, putting the opponent under pressure. But i can't get my tactic right, i concede too many goals and create too few opportunities. Could you give me some advice (about team instructions etc.)?

i'm newcastle 2, i also finished 6th. in my 2nd season i'm currently top after 5 games. play 4-4-2, with a defensive style, mixed passing and quick tempo, but ALWAYS play coounter attack, i'm unbeatable at the mo, hpe it helps

Im a Geordie and unfortunately play as Newcastle every game.
I've a wonderful tactic based on Masse? forget his name's tactic.

Total Football_NUFC

I've uploaded it to the above, download it, pop it into your tactics folder and see what you think.

It's a 4-4-2 but the two wide players are pushed forward. There's lots of closing down though the defence tend to stand off. It seems to work well and you will find you have lots of possession. I couldn't get this working with Masee's original tactic called 'Barcelona domination for Newcastle' so I've spent hours tweaking it.
I've now settled with this. It seems to work really well. Lots of possession and the key for me now is that with the above tactic, I'm now creating good chances for the top two, which with the other one, I wasn'nt. What I did to rectify that problem was ask the two strikers to swap with each other. This seems to work a treat.
I'm in my first season again after having had to start again after wife unplugged PC to plug hoover in - typical.
I've only signed Sherman Cardenas and Igor Tudor. Sold, Bramble, Solano, Dyer and Ameobi.
I'm unbeated in 14 games, drawn 3.
I'll admit, I've missed the so-called big boys yet but have played Spurs at Spurs and won 2-0 - always a tricky ground for me.

Anyway, hope you like it.

I forgot to add that this tactic seems to work best with a little and large strike partnership. I've started off with Sibierski and Martins and they work very well. I then went on to buy Vela from the Arse (snip at 4mill) and played Vela and Martins - this did not work and I lost two games on the trot to Spurs and Charlton away.
I've also used Vela and Crouch - worked like a dream. I think FM2007 really likes 1 striker with 15+ jumping and heading and the other a clinical finisher or someone with bags of pace.

Thanks for the advice guys!

I'll try your tactics. I have one problem at Newcastle, i haven't got any money, cannot sign some good players. Now, at the beginning of the second season, i have bought only 2 players, A.Berezutskiy from CSKA and Wayne Bridge. At the moment my team is something like this:

-----------Given--------------
Carr-Taylor-Berezutskiy-Bridge

Milner--Parker---Emre----Duff

-------Sibierski--Martins-----

The main positions that need to be improved are my DR and my MR. Carr is getting old and Milner just don't improve.

Milner is cack. You should have bought Cardenas at the begining of the game for free (well 750k compo).
Right backs...I normally go for a this dutch player, forgotten his name now...nuts.
However, you will be able to sign a left back for free, De Cler, much better than Bernard / Baba - allowing you to sell either, more pocket money.

I've also been working on that my tactics again and I've now settled on this NUFC STYLE

It appears to be much more consistant AWAY from home. The other tactic lost me many games away. This one, very similar actually, just the odd tweak here and there, seems more steady, though you have to remember, you manage Newcastle...so anything can happen.
