I just wondered basically if anyone new how to have a mean defence.
Let me put it in simple terms. I'm Carlisle in my second season, Last season was not very good at all. Finished 18th and let in loads of goals. This season I'm 2nd which im proud of because I have brought in some good players on a free, but to win a game i have to score 3 or 4 because i let in way too many. I'm on my 5th goalkeeper for a start. My defenders get good ratings but I have conceded the same as teams at the bottom.
I know if I get this right I will go up because my attack is awesome.
Add a DM and get your FB's to play more defensively. Also try a deep line with less closing down. Direct passing from the CB's should give the opposition less chances in front of goal.
here 2 solutions for that
1. give 'hard tackling' and 'show weaker foot' to their wingers, and/or
2. put a DM to cover the back four. FB may have an attacking minded as long as you have a DM with closing down 'often' and 2 CB rarely to close down. With this, once an opponent try to counter attack, your DM will cover the position that has been left by your FB and protect the CB.
