Okay, I'm fairly new to football manager and i wasn't doing too well on my game, so i read a number of tactics tutorials on a number of different websites and it's really not helped me out. Infact I often do better just leaving all the sliders in Neutral and setting no Opposition instructions.
I read that if the opposition is using a pacey forward i should never close down and always use tight marking, but this really doesn't help me. For example Jamie Carragher playing against Carlos Tevez, Tevez constantly rounds Carragher and gets into a very good scoring opportunity. Setting my backline to drop deeper doesn't have much effect either.
I was just wondering if anyone had any tips which might work better than the ones i've been using. I don't really want to have the results based on pot luck on whether the team i'm playing can or cannot cope with me playing with little tactics.

Get to know your team! Know the advantages and disadvantages in each area of the pitch. You can use what you've found out. E.g. if you've got two slow CBs you would want to have a deep backline without tight marking. Also, Analysing the opposition helps. Notice where they're strong and you can make little tweaks.
Im reasonably new to FM so i started with Harrogate. All a case of trial and error for my team but if you're liverpool you can know the weaknesses
