When ever i click to download the new patch, a box comes up and says "open" "save" or "close" if i click save a box comes up on my desktop, when i click it my fm loads up, when i click open the same thing happens. what do i do to save the new patch onto my game?

Where are you downloading from? A torrent or a mirror?

I don't use torrents and have XP so I don't know if these will be any use.

When you click to download the file from the internet you get this dialog box (probably something similar in Vista):-

Click the save button as circled.

Then you should get a similar dialog box to this one (again I'm on XP so it might look different on Vista):-

Click the Save button as highlighted and the download should begin with a dialog box indicating it's progress (how much is downloaded and how long it will take).

There's links in the first post of the patch thread at the top of this forum. If you dig through the thread you'll also find various mirrors you can use.

Just downloaded it but when i extract the file theres an error, it says "Error creating update file - Cprogram files\sports interactive\football manager 2008\data editor.exe" and "Error 0x00000020 - the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." any more help?

Shut down FM before patching.
