Are you sure? Because that error message suggests that you had the FM 2008 data editor open when you attempted to install the patch.

Shut down the data editor if you have it open and try again.

Ii you get that message again then I don't know how to help you as I've never used Vista. I could run through what I would do with XP and you could see if there are equivalent tools.

the only thing i have open on the tool bar is the internet, is there any way i can shut down the editor without it being open on the tool bar? p.s. thanks for all the help so far

If you look a couple threads up someone else is having the same problem so there might be something strange going on.

Try rebooting your computer and then installing the patch.

You might want to keep an eye on that thread for possible solutions. I don't have Vista and haven't used it yet so it's difficult for me to offer any solutions as I don't know what (if any) similarities there are with XP.

thanks for the help, im going 2 try again tomorrow, but if that wont work im just going to stay with the 8.0.0 patch

Did rebooting not work?

If not you could try downloading a program by Microsoft called Process Explore from here

as this program will let you look deeper than Task Manager at what's running.

You're not the only one having this problem so it may well be a conflict issue or a problem with the torrent file (that's just me speculating though since I don't know much about torrents).

If you find a solution for this yourself will you post in here for other people to reference.
