This is a two part topic: firstly, the AI teams seem to treat their legendary players like sh*t, in particular Man Yoo (no surprises there, see kicking survivors of the Munich air crash out of their homes). Anyway Giggs, Scholes and Gary Neville were all booted out with time to run on their contracts. Neville in particular still looks like a class player, he could still cut it in the premiership at 34 with the stats he has. Scholes has lost his stamina and long shooting but is still pretty good for a low end premiership or championship side. Giggs didn't look brilliant, but hey, he'd probably play for nothing. Milan also turfed out Maldini but I suppose he was 39.
The second part concerns me trying to sign these old duffers. Now you'd figure they were upset at leaving Scum Trafford, and wouldn't be too keen playing for somebody else. I tried to sign Ronny Johnsen while at Rochdale. He'd been without a club in well over a year and pushing 40, but as he had no plans to retire you'd think he'd join just about anyone. Eventually he revealed his wage demands, I offered him what he wanted, he flat out rejects me. I increase his squad status up to key player, varied his contract length, no joy. Well screw you Ronny.
Now at Watford, I try to sign Neville and Scholes. I meet both their demands, both flat out reject me. Nobody else makes them an offer, and neither are retiring, yet still they won't even negotiate. I managed to get Scholes to accept an offer, but to do that I have to nearly quadruple what wages he's asking for. If they don't want to play for anyone else, why not tell me that, or say it would take a huge offer to tempt then rather than have me waste my time with them? I think their personality description should be 'evil'.
There is a genuine issue here with players not choosing to retire "at the top" and just hanging about like this.
Okay, it's not been well expressed, but the amount of 35/36 year old former stars I see knocking about on the freebie list annoys me.
The game needs to tell when they are fading, and have them choose to step down.
