I'm a veteran of the old CM games, but this is my first FM, and I'm a bit out of practice. I generally prefer managing lower league teams, although sometimes go up to Championship level. I want to create a new tactic but all I can think of is damn 4-4-2, which is just boring.
In my first season as Marine manager in Conference North, with very little cash, I dabbled with 4-4-2, 4-1-2-1 using wide central midfielders, 4-3-2-1, and 4-3-1-2. None brought much success and, while I won a few games with the 4-3-1-2, I think this was mainly due to the players staring at relagation (which was sadly the end result, on goal difference).
Anyway, is it possible to have much success with slightly less conventioanl formations? I generally prefer to play a passing game, using a central midfield playmaker, although beggars can't really be choosers at lower levels!
