It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Its my away form that is knackering my game and enjoyment in this version of FM.

Still trying to figure out what is the best tactic to use away from home. With Cardiff, i was thinking of a 4-2-2-1-1. This would have a back four, deep defending ( maybe 1 on 4, the other on 6) with my two centre backs, and my full backs with a slightly less deep defending (both on 7) with both having arrows going backwrds.

My two DMC, could be on (8) to try and help out in defence. I would want to wingers (not pushed right up though, on half way line), and thier mentality could be around ( 10) normal.

My AMC, i would like to have him on nrmal too, but with a arrow going backwards towards midfield, and my attacker would be attacking, around say (15). Still undecided about what type of attacker to use, maybe start with big guy good at heading, john sutton, and if it is not goiung well, bring on chopra and go for pace and play on the ground.

Team instrctions would be normal, quick temp with direct passing. try some wdie play at first to try and get the ball to Sutton, but if that not working, then maybe try changing to chopra and going to pace and quick playing the ball on the deck football. I would like to use deep defensive line too, say around (4).

Anyone think this would work, or am i giving conflicting instrctions ?

well decided to watch a full game, and it is while doing this is have noticed all sorts wrong with this game.

Cant wait for the patch to come out.

Anyway's think i have made my team a bit more defensive, but the problem still lies with what i am telling ym players to do, they are not doing it, they decide to do somthing different.

For away games, I've found that attack is the best form of defence. I just play my normal instructions (attacking, mostly default, farrows on wingers, three midfielders getting forward, mixed forward runs on cfs) and alter the width or direction of pass.

Of course at the moment the whole system seems so random that anything might work, but I definitely do better playing through the middle away from home.

Just the opposite here. To defend a lead i always play both planks counter attack and many times i get the releaf goal. I stop my centre midfielders from forward runs often and play with two wingers and a striker.

That is of course if i still have 11 men on the pitch, wich is extremely rare.
Otherwise i keep a winger and play just for is flank.

I'd agree with everything Cleon said, I will elaborate further.

When playing a game, I rather look at the stats screen than the 2D screen, especially at the early stages of any tactic creation. If I am a goal up early, I usually just sit back and look out for players who do not see a progressive rise in match ratings. I have seen matches where I could be 2 goals up but my DC has a match rating of 5.In such a case I will definitely look at his stats and see where he is going wrong.

The stats I look at are passing completion rates, tackling attempts, heading and jumping. If he is performing poorly, I will sub him cos I have found that these are the chinks that the AI will exploit.

Substitution strategies are vital for tight matches. Other ingame tweaks can include, tightmarking a difficult striker, closing down harder on a dangerous winger. These are things I will do in case the match ratings for one of the AI players is higher than normal.

Yes nonleague, I've seen that happen to. If he has made a mistake I will watch him more closely tho, I had to sub a 5 off once before cos it appeared he wanted the nickname Calamity

In my Palace game I can just not defend a lead away from home.
Somehow I have managed way too many times to loose a 2-0 lead with 25 min to go with opponents swarming me with ultra cheat formation 4-2-4. And more than half of the game I let in the equaliser or go behind in extra time.
The shots are normally 4-1 to me after 70 min and 5-8 after 90. No mater what I do with passing, d-line, counter, anything the opponents players score super goals.
And thos half time talks are a nightmare.
I have a 2-0 lead vs Porthsmouth, Ipswish, etc etc and all players have 7 and 8s. As soon as I choose to be pleased with their performance I am doomed 90% of the time. What am I supposed to say???
I can't be thrilled cause they haven't been that good and I can't be dissapointed or angry. And why would they need encouraging?
So it is a loose loose situation.
Take a game vs Derby away. My players practically kill the opponents and if not for supergoalie. So after totally dominating and winning the shots 14-2 after 1 half I tell them that they are unlucky not to be winning.
5 min into the second half I am down 1-0 and playing with 10 men.
And then no matter what I did I lost 1-0.
If I have superior players on all positions and outplaying opposing teams telling my players something wrong and then get run over is just wrong.
And it has to be easier to be able to kill a game when 2-0 up if all my defenders have above 15 in tackling, positioning etc. And then to see a sub who plays normally as a full back go in and score 2 goals in the final 15 min makes your day. Not to mention he lacks match practice and has a av. rating of 6.30 and 8 in finishing and 7 in composure. Realistic

Latest season with Man Utd:

Lost in Champs League Semi's vs Real Madrid 1-2 after conceding twice in the last 5 minutes.

Lost in FA Cup semi's vs Man City 1-0, 87th minute Samaras goal.

Lost in League Cup Quarters vs Man City 3-2 after leading 2-0 at half time.

Beat Aston Villa 3-2 4 times in 3 months after being down 2-0 at half time.

Beat Barcelona 3-1 after losing 0-1 in the 70th minute.

I blame... Vidic, his concentration seems whack during big games, hehe.
