It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default M&M 4-4-2

Hello people!

This is my first post on the forums, mainly been browsing around for ideas for tactics or new gems, keeping a low profile But here it goes.

I started a game with my beloved Liverpool, and started messing around with a new tactic. Started out pretty bad, but after some tweaks the pieces started to fall in to place. Ended up 2nd place, only 1 point behind Chelsea. That was a pretty good achievement since i had like 5 losses on my first 9 games and i was really struggling at the start of the season.. The second season got to easy, played 15 games or something and won all without any problems. So i wanted to try out my tactic with a team with not the same resources as Liverpool. So i started a game with West Ham.

The key to this tactic is having pacey wingers that is able to cross well, and one striker with targetman abilities, ie jumping, strength (and height as i think this affects the match engine more then ever). 1 striker does have a bit less mentality than the other one. I mainly used my best header as the most defensive striker, and a pacey one together with him to get behind their defensive line and catch up the other strikers flick-ons. The wingers gets in alot of crosses, and the fullbacks swings deep crosses, very often to the striker with lowest mentality. Occasionaly use him as a target man, mostly against the bigshots like Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Pool.

Ended second, behind Manchester United in the Premier League

Won the FA Cup

And won the EURO Cup

I'm not saying that this tactic is the bomb. It works for me so far, but it definetly needs some tweaking and testing.

Would mainly like some of you to check it out, give some comments and feedback.

Cheers

For some reason i'm not allowed to edit my own message. But as said, this is my first post on this forums so i'm probably just doing something wrong.

Anyway, forgot the link to the tactic.

Good post M&M, seems like you have a decent little tactic developing.

Just a couple of questions about your general style of play:

How have you set up the two MCs? Have you gone for the usual one attacking one defending split or a more flat approach with both players sharing the attacking/defensive laods?

Also, how about your fullbacks? With your wingers being key to your tactic I would imagine the fullbacks play quite a big role too. Do you encourage your fullbacks to help out your wingers in attack or do you prefer to keep them in position to avoid being over-run outwide?

Thanks for the reply Mikey.

I have mainly gone for the usual one more offensive and another alittle more holding, allthough not too defensively.

I had ticked in often FR on my fullbacks, but i noticed i got caught napping on the flanks occasionally, so i reduced it to mixed. They are indeed a part of my offensive force with good crosses from deep. If i'm under i may tick in often FR. But i have to say that i defensively have been pretty solid.

Do you use a home and away version or do you tweak one standard version from game to game?

By the sounds of it a good away version for your style of play could be using 2 defensive minded MC’s. They should give your back four all the protection they need while releasing your wingers to cause havoc down the flanks on quick breaks

For this style of play I would suggest lowering CF of both MCs and giving them both quite high CD while doing the opposite for the wingers. In theory this should mean when your MCs have worked hard to retreat the ball your wingers will be in good positions to receive the ball and start attacks.

Just some thoughts if you feel you need a possible alternative without drastically changing your shape/personnel.

This have only been a tryout project that ended with surprisingly success. So i have only been tweaking the standard tactic from game to game, depending on the opponent.
