I did quite a big test with the demo, using first of all the standard default training and 4-4-2 tactic. Using default tactic and training I managed 1.7 points per game and a horrendous list of injuries. Using a custom built set of tactcics , one of the downloaded training schedules and reassigning the coaches, with the same team and players I managed 2.3 points per game and only about 5 injuries in the 6 months.
Not the most scientific of tests but enough to convince me that you need to at least amend the default schedules to be successful
