Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default 4-4-2 diamond

First of all, i donnot wish to complain or moan, but i find myself in the situation that i simply have to.
SI has done a great job making FM07 as complete as possible. My compliments on that. But however, imo, i think they forgot to simplificy the tactics. I know FM06 is an other game then FM07, but still.
I'am simple about tactits, I never use a fancy attacking or ugly-defending tactict. I use a rocksolid 4-4-2 Diamond Attack system. I've had a blast with this system in FM06, but in FM07 it's crap. I donnot understand aswell. IRL therre are loads of manager using this system, and it works for them. Okay u lose one or other here and there. But losing every game and being completly run over by your opposition??? Frustrating I know SI is aiming to get the game as realistic as possible, but like i said before, a 4-4-2 diamond attack should be good enough to get u about 85% winning games. Maybe im dumb or something, but don't have a point here???

Not necessarily true what you are saying.

Most managers who use 4-4-2 generally play a flat 4-4-2 (most common) or a narrow diamond (more continental teams).

Not many managers in the big leagues use a 4-4-2 wide diamond, which is what I believe you are referring to. Look at EPL, La Liga, Serie A and try to find multiple teams that play this 4-4-2 diamond wide system. I doubt you'll find many.

Truth is the wide diamond simply leaves too much space down the middle of the field for the opposition to exploit. Therefore, SI has done a good job in making this tactic less effective in 07 because its realistic to be this way.
