I don't often use FM Genie Scout, but when I checked on how players had improved or diminished since 06, Hleb was the best player in his position in the world. Now it says that if he reaches his full potential, he might almost be as good as someone else. Ignore the whole "FM Scout is cheating" thing for a moment - I'm just using it as an example of reference. The thing is, although Lehmann is 36, all of the other players should be in their prime or approaching their prime, so why the sudden drop?

Once a player reaches his full potential, the only way is down in all honesty. You need to change their schedule to sustain stats and not improve them, as they cannot be improved any more.

They're not at full potential. Hleb is 4 points away and still improving towards his peak, and Emmanuel Adebayor has just done a plummet as well. Most of them aren't at their full potential.

At last I have something in common with an Arsenal fan. I'm playing Chelsea and have seen the same thing, not just with Lampard and Ballack, who I expect to decline or stagnate in their late 20s, but with Kalou and Mikel and Robben (who is not, despite his appearance, in his mid 30s) and other youngsters I signed (Micah Richards, Franck Ribery).
I have tried multiple schedules, and even seen stats for youngsters decline in categories that were set to intensive training.
Conclusion: From a training pov, the game is frankly unplayable until the patch.

The way to improve a player who has "maxed out" so to speak, is to train him in important areas for his position but NOT train him in unimportant areas.
A sort of redistribution of attributes.
That's what I said: "I'm using decent medium to heavy training schedules based on age that are specialised for different positions and foci (defence, midfield, forwards, strength, pace, et al)". And most of them haven't maxed out.

Have they recently been injured??
No.

There is a serious issue regarding technical attributes though. They don't improve much. I am in my 5th season now and technical attributes are just very very low.
I know that player attributes and current abillity is closely linked. Now as the players mental attributes increase over time as well as the physical, it's like the "calculation" doesn't leave enough possibility for the technical attributes to increase as well. As a matter of fact they tend to decrease.
I "only" played 5 seasons and already now I see how all players in the game have a dramatic decrease in tech att.
I noticed this have been ajusted for the patch. But for now I don't think it makes the game unplayable as such. It's the same thing for all teams, so no unfairness.
