This thread was supposed to be a game by game walkthrough of just how easy it is to succeed at this game with the default 442.

However, after my first Prem game away to Sheff Utd, it has to start as a bit of a rant and complaint post.



Starting with the default 442 with long farrows, Chelsea dominated the early play and scored almost immediately. On quickly going 2-0 up Sheff Utd went for a more attacking approach so i dropped the full back runs to mixed and the long farrows to short farrows.

Watching Villa and Shevchenko missing from 6 yards out, i then had to watch as a 40 yarder from the opposition hit Lampard and sent the keeper the wrong way, fair enough 2-1, but still dominating and everything United hit was from distance and off target.

Second half and more of the same, although i had replaced Shev for Drogba it was his turn to start missing sitters. Uniteds first shot in the second half was courtesy of a mistake by Ferraira and all of a sudden its 2-2 out of nowhere?.

I upped the ante by going back to my original attacking formation and deservedly took the lead again courtesy of Frank Lampard. I again made the adjustments to play slightly more defensive and Sheff U saw none of the ball until a simple interception from Boularouz was missed and John Stead scored his second from a position that my three World Class forwards missed from to make it 3-3.

This to me emulates exactly what is wrong with FM07 as clear as day, the only difference is, if your playing as a top four side you will still pick up wins and the odd draw from these situation, whilst any other Prem side would tend to lose at least 8-10 games like this a season!(at least thats what i have witnessed in my hundreds of started and unfinished games).

Back to the point of the thread, if you want to succeed using any of the top four simply use the default 442. The only tweaks you'll need to make are switching from short to long farrows and switching the full backs forward runs between mixed and often depending on your opposition or the score.

I'm pretty sure even with this immediate set back, i'll be challenging for the Prem as well as all the other comps, but i just thought i'd point out again just why so many people are becoming frustrated with the game and why there is a distinct lack of fun when playing.

Anyway, i'll post again soon with an update for anyone who's interested in playing this game in its simplest form?.

Remember, if your going to be playing as one of the Big Four, then fancy tactics are just not needed, in fact i imagine your much less likely to succeed using them.

I thought I'd try that aswell. I was in 2017/2018, unbeaten and top of the league after 17 games, playing arsenal away(who were in 13th)and I was heavily favoured to win. So I picked the 442 attacking default and changed the global mentality to attacking, no other changes. The end score was 8-4 to arsenal!!!I figure that must be some sort of record for a competitive match in the premiership. Needless to say that was the end of that little experiment. I hope yours turns out better.

I've already conducted a full seasons test as Liverpool and Arsenal and just about won the lot with both. I started a test with Manure but had so many injuries i could'nt put out even a half decent first 11.

This was my second game and again although completely dominating, i went a goal down and was losing 1-0 at h-t.

Thankfully we did enough to turn it around second half, but as you can see, only just.

Okay it was'nt a great performance from either side, but Bolton scored with their very first shot after yet another of our free kicks saw us give the ball straight to the opposition. Anelka then dicked both Terry and Boulahrouz before slotting home from the corner of the box.

I've had to drop David Villa as again he missed a few one on ones!.

This was actually a better performance than the stats suggest, as everything Arsenal hit us with before we went 2-1 up was largely from distance.

As soon as Arsenal changed to an attacking tactic late in the game my players simply decided to give the ball away at every opportunity, giving Arsenal chance after chance to counter.

The whole point of the thread was really to show all the people out there who can't find success with the Top Clubs!.

Chelsea are the hardest of the top four to try this with as Arsenal, Liverpool and Manure all have the 442 as their base tactic.
