Haha that is quite funny...
I think that the list is ridiculous.
I'm sure worldwide the best two players are nearly ALWAYS considered to be Pele and Maradonna. I'm also fairly sure that generally the next best would be widely considered to be Cruyff...
Baggio all the way down at 79 is an absolute joke!
The list obviously favours current day players, players that recieved more publicity (And therefore were recognised in the USA-hence the top 3 being brazilian strikers, made famous by World Cup success)...Figo above not only Maradona, but also his Madrid team mate, Zidane is also a joke...
The list seems to favour modern players, Brazilians (actually World Cup winners in general) and Real Madrid players...

What's Cruijff doing on 21st place... Marco van Basten on 12th? Gullit on 18th? I mean, come on, this list shouldn't be taken seriously..

If you actually bother to read the ESPN article, then the list is compiled on a points basis which makes for the 'irregularities' to justify a few, Ali Daei (failed Bayern Munich journeyman) scored 109 international goals, George Best never played at a major tournament, Ronaldo is the highest world cup goal scorer of all time etc...
The entire thing is done on a complicated points system, no opinions involved whatsoever which is why the list is such nonsense!!!
Just thought i should inform!

Figo, Zidane better than Cruyff and Van Basten? They are a bit biased to the present maybe. Van Basten unfortunately won't be better than Cruyff in a good list, god knows how good he would be when he didn't have injury problems. He would be in the list of Pele, Maradona, Cruyff.

This is football, how good a player is isn't about how many goals he scores or how many cups he's won, it's about how good he plays which is why this sort of thing doesn't work in football.
They probably did the same for baseball, then though "Hey, let's do the same for Soccer!"

Anyway, this list is crap. It is always a matter of opinion anyway, but this one is just awful. Many people agree about he absolute best though, but not in America. Asking Americans to do a soccer (soccer aah) list is like asking an eskimo to paint a tropical island.
