I have been a fan of the Championship Manager (and now Football Manager) series for a number of years now.
However since the 2006 version which in my opinion is the best released in recent times, I have been consistently disappointed.
FM 2008 feels like an incomplete game. The match engine is shoddy and unrealistic. The fact that your players seem incapable of closing down even on the top setting is in my opinion unacceptable. When I spend £25 on a new game I expect it to work properly. Even with Man Utd, or Barca it seems impossible to sustain any sort of form.
The computer seems reluctant to offer anywhere near the value price for any of your players and expects you to pay well over the odds for theirs.
Having finished a season I checked the top scorer table and there were no fewer than 20 players who had scored at least ten goals with Kevin Doyle as top scorer with 31.
This just doesn't make sense. It would never ever ever happen. It was a serious issue with the previous game and it seems that SI really have been lazy.
And thats what it comes down to. FM 08 feels like a lazy re-release. The new features when you really get down to it don't extend much further than a new skin and a slightly better coach report.
I would love to like this game. I really do enjoy the fm series when at its' best but this has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Not having the internet at home I haven't been able to download the beta patch, which seems to fix some of the problems, but come on! What other game do you have to buy a patch for to actually play?!
SI sort your act out! I can't believe I have to wait another year for the chance of a half decent fm game.

Who told you you had to PAY for the patch???
And what other game needs a patch? Just about every single game that's released needs a patch. Sometimes the issues are worse than others, but there's not been a single title released in the last five years that I can think of that HASN'T had a patch released for it.
Oh and as far as this being the worst... Sorry I don't agree with you there either. CM4 was far worse than FM 08. I do however agree with you that FM06 and 07 were better "out of the box."
