This has always been a problem with FM/CM. Until recently, I was still playing Championship Manager 03/04 and the regens are frankly bizarre.
Physically, you'll have a player with 20 for balance but only 6 for strength and vice versa, 20 for work rate but only 2 for stamina etc.
Mentally you'll havbe someone with high work rate but low determination, someone who is highly temperamental but a great professional etc.
For some reason, a regen's physical and mental stats are TOTALLY random and often paradoxes occur that make the player difficult to play with.
Surely if a player had such high balance, he would have strength of at least 13 you'd think.

The majority of my FREDs coming through my youth team are carp. However, I've had one gem in 3 years who is now in my first team and said to have the potential to be playing at a couple of leagues above our current one.
I'd say that's about right - most footballers can't go on up the leagues, as there's limited room, right?

In all the seasons I've played FM and CM, I've never had a good regen who could go on to play in my first team.
But in my second season on FM2008, I got a regen who came straight into my first team at Caersws. He's also played for the Welsh U19s and U21s and has been in the Welsh full team and is also being chased up by premiership teams
So it does happen...admittedly rarely

i find you do have to sift through a lot of rubbish to get good ones... and then normally have to pay over the odds for them!
ive come from playing 06 and i had some good players but only one from my own youth academy.
i found that if theres anyone promising, get them in the reserves (not u18s) and give them some 1st team exp and their stats go up a lot faster

It's not good to know that the next generation of players will be inferior to ones currently in the game.

regens were a lot better in fully patched fm07, but they seem to have gotten worse again

Joshlee, I'll upload a picture of my player, but he's had about 4 years of development. I'll show you his stats aswell to prove he's been a first team regular.
And his stats are excellent for his position, but this is the Welsh Premier, so excellent may not be that good.
