Right, i am watford at the end of second year, first in premiership and i get 7th place. I knew that i didn't need 6th place as the 1st placed team won the FA cup so NORMALLY 7th place gets into UEFA Cup. Yet this year liverpool finish 11th but win the Champions League so fourth place gets UEFA cup spot and so i am effectively moved down to 8th choice for European spots. I am now in the euro vase which i think is the inter toto cup but thats useless! I toiled to make history with little old watford and scousers screwed me
In real life this happened when liverpool finished 5th but won the Champions League 5 teams got into CL so why isn't it like this in the game?
link doesn't work and i can't edit post so this might work

UEFA changed the rules so that that couldnt happen again, in the event of the holders failing to qualify, they automatically take one of their country's spots.
in the FA cup, if the winners are through to the champions league, then the beaten finalists get the uefa cup place instead, if both finalists are in the CL, then it goes to a league team iirc, its different in the league cup, where the beaten finalists dont get a euro place if the winners are through to the CL
The season when Liverpool got through to the CL despite finishing fifth was a one off, because no-one at UEFA expected the winners to be so poor in the league, so they let Liverpool in te qualifiers to stop them crying basically. They then changed the rule to stop it happening again.
Back in the early 90s IRL Crystal Palace earned the highest league position in the club's history, finishing 3rd in England's top division (called the First Division back then). The top two teams in England were granted entry into the European Cup (now called the Champions League) at the time, but Liverpool, who finished 2nd, were banned from European competitions due to the Heysel Disaster.
UEFA decided to lift Liverpool's ban four years early (out of 10), leaving Palace out of luck.
