Back in the early 90s IRL Crystal Palace earned the highest league position in the club's history, finishing 3rd in England's top division (called the First Division back then). The top two teams in England were granted entry into the European Cup (now called the Champions League) at the time, but Liverpool, who finished 2nd, were banned from European competitions due to the Heysel Disaster.
UEFA decided to lift Liverpool's ban four years early (out of 10), leaving Palace out of luck.
At least for you, it was only a video game.
I dont remember that?
I thought when the ban was lifted it was for all English teams, dont remember Liverpoolstill being banned.
even if thats the case there werent 2 teams entered into the European cup for some time after that surely ?
ahh quit crying the lot of ya, Nottingham Forest Football Club "The Tricky Trees" to the locals, used to be European royalty, now we're languishing in Division 1, we've got it terrible lol

The original ban for English teams was indefinite and Liverpool were banned for an extended period after that. But the new measures to tackle hooliganism meant the Liverpool period was shortened. I think some people in UEFA didn't want Liverpool back in Europe at all.

i see thanks, so if i win in the inter toto i will be in UEFA, thats not so bad then.
Also the winners and runners up of FA and league cups were in the top 4.
The Euro Vase is a good trophy for English teams as it means your team gets shooting practice against minnows which will help build up morale. You also get to see how your team performs a long way from home before facing the big boys.
