Default Celeron Processor

hi, im getting a new laptop and i was wondering if a laptop with 1.86 Ghz Celeron processor with 1GB ram would run FM 2008 ok. My mates thing celerons are rubbish and FM will run slow, any opinions or experience?

thanks!

It'll work absolutely fine but to be honest i'd wait or save up and buy one with 2GB RAM if I were you. Processor doesn't matter THAT much but 2GB of Ram is worth the relatively low extra amount of cash you'll spend.

But like I say, it'll work fine and dandy.

The only problem with Celeron is if you have lots of windows open at 1 time it can run very slow, but for games as said above, extra memory should do.

Celerons are rubbish. Although there are some that are cut down Core 2 Duos- have you a link to your spec?

Better to get a quicker processor as 1gb is adequate to run FM08 to the degree a low/mid-end processor can work at.

Also how much have you got to spend?

it comes free with my phone, i dont have a full spec, all i know is that its an HP with the celeron 1.86 1gb ram, 80gig hard disk, the ram is upgradable and i plan do do this regardles, also its Vista, dont know if that will have any effect.

Im a big fan of Vista myself, but on that spec you will get better performance if in some way you can get it to come with XP installed- as imo Vista will be result in a performance overhead you could do without.

The 2gb of RAM will help though in your case- as really Vista needs that to breath (as the OS' performance benefits depend heavily on caching), but I dont think you will see that extra memory giving FM much of, or any boost.

suppose i could give it a blast, and install xp myself if vista is too slow, my pc that i use has a pentium 4 2.8 ghz and only 500 Mb ram currently, that is just about bareable but un bareable come international times, when it takes an age to process all the games,

anyway, suppose i will juat have to wait and see how it goes.. its only purpose will be for FM, Browsing and the odd album download anyway
