FM2009 International Player Interaction - Better but still requires work
Just taken over as manager of England in 2014 after Steve MacLaren failed (again) in his 2nd spell as Manager, this time failing to get past the group stage of the WC.
My first job was to remove some of the oldies from the squad as i thought we need to build fro the future. Anyway i removed John Terry who was captain & Steven Gerrard who was vice captain and replaced them with two new ones. John Terry, now 33 was unhappy as being replaced as captain and i got a message saying he was condiering international retirement after being replaced. However i could not approach him and tell him what i thought, for example

Tell John Terry despite being replaced as captain he still part of your plans

Tell John Terry that he will not be part of your next squad however should he impress he will be considered for future squads

Tell John Terry that he has played his last game for his country, however you are thankful for his service.

As ive just taken over & this is my first time playing international on FM08 i might get more media/player interaction as i get further on or closer to games & tournaments but i still feel that ther is not enough options when approaching the media regarding a player on a daily basis, currently my only international interaction is Tell player x they need to be playing regualar first team football, there should be more options for example

Tell player x he needs to be playing regularly

Tell player x he needs to be playing at a higher level

Tell player x that you will be watching him in view to your next squad selection

Tell player x that he is not currently part of your plans

Tell player x that he wont be considered for any future squads & reccommends international retirement (older players only)

Tell player x you think he will be the next big thing for [insert national team] (young players only)

Tell player x he will be the long term replacement for player z

Tell player x that you want him to declare himself for England (players who are considering a 2nd nationality only)

Obviously some of these can be adapted/changed as major tournaments get closer, maybe some of my ideas above are not great & im sure people can think of better ones but i think that although the international interaction is a good idea it does need some work.
Thoughts/comments please?

Your suggestions are all very good. And the player and media interaction aspects of international management still could be improved.
But the part of international management that most needs improvement, in my opinion, is the scheduling of friendlies. As it is now, the only friendlies you can schedule are FIFA sanctioned ones. I would very much like to see the ability to schedule non-sanctioned friendlies.
Apparently, SI wanted to give clubs the feature of withholding players from friendlies. The thing is, in real life, clubs can only do this for non-sanctioned friendlies. Any friendlies held on FIFA International Dates the clubs MUST release their players, and these are the only kinds of matches you can schedule on FM.

i agree and there needs to be friendlies before major tournaments. i did an england game and i didnt have a match from febuary to my opening game of euro 2008 and i had to make various alterations to my squad so i didnt get a chance to get the team to work together and see who would play best where.
