I'll kick off with a bit of a controversial one, what do people think of Genie's latest post on his website saying, 'There were many questions about the source code directed to me. I declare that the source code of FM Genie Scout 2008 will NOT be available due to my plans of using some parts of program with commercial purpose'.
There where lots of rumours he intended to charge for Scout, and most of them where rubbished. But like a lot of people where saying, why didn't he just release a basic version, and then develop it from there...
I wonder if it's because he intends to charge for it? Or he needs it to be a slick program as he's trying to impress professional games companies?
Most of the feedback on his website would appear to imply most people are willing to pay for it. Would you?
I can't imagine he would charge for it, but I wonder what, 'commercial purpose' means?
Do you think if he did start charging for it there would suddenly be an influx of other Scouts? MiniScout is quite impressive, although it doesn't have a search function, but that's something the author would like to implement.
I read "commercial purpose" as being ads or something connected to the programme?
i cant see him charging for it, but then again im not inside his brain.
But lets say, if he was to charge for it, i'd think a lot of other would start making a free scout like miniscout which u also pointed out.
He would also have to fight against people sending it to each other, or sharing it p2p... i dunno how much he would gain from it.
But then again if the price isnt too bad then one would argue that he had every right to demand money for something he put his time and heart into. I wouldnt pay for it tho, it isnt THAT important to me.
I think he intends to use parts of the program for a different, commercial program. Just substitute the FM database with another, and it becomes a pretty awesome database search engine.

That is a very simple one to answer.
From what I understand, Genie was having issues working out the new database structure. As this is the most important part of the program (without this, the data can not be read or used) it would not be possible to release a basic version.
Well, technically it would be possible to release a basic version but as it would just be a GUI with no database structure in place it wouldn't be very functional.
I would have thought he'd offer a premium version and a basic version, perhaps anything he adds from now feature wise we'll have to pay for, but the basic version as was available last year will still be available.
That's what i'd do in his position anyway, offer a basic version and a premium one with kick ass features.
