It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Theoretical Tactics and Training Tuning 2007

After reading most threads about Tactics, I got bit confused, and so far it looks like I'm not the only one...So here's all the options in your Tactics Screen, explained as good as I can.
Everything I say in here is said, by me, in my world, so please don't blame me if your in another one, thank you. Nevertheless, all questions, comments, discussions are welcome.

Team Instructions

Mentality:
00 - Defend Only
10 - Balanced
20 - Attack Only
-Players Mentality is something completely different, I'll get to that later.
-Try not to use anything under 4 or above 16, unless you're really going for it.

Creative Freedom:
00 - Do excactly as other Instructions
10 - Do what your able to
20 - Do what you like
-Position linked, Defenders with High CF might go forward more, but also might defend different, while a MC put in a FC position with High CF might drop back to his Prefered Position.
-[i]Important Attributes for Players with High CF are Concentration, Creativity, Decisions, Flair, Teamwork.

Passing Style:
00 - Short, play to closest possible player
10 - Mixed, use best option available
20 - Long/Direct, pump ball forward
-Important Attributes are First Touch and Passing
-Influenced by CF and Style of play

Closing Down:
00 - Deep, stand on DL, tackle there
10 - Normal, move towards opposition but stay in position
20 - Go get the ball
-Used with good succes for Forwards
-Important Attributes are Aggression, Bravery, Determination, Work Rate

Tempo:
00 - Slow, possession play, stay fit
10 - Normal, normal play, use fitness
20 - Fast, faster chances, tire out
-Affects all types of play, re-adjust for Counter Football

Width:
00 - Narrow, if pitch is 100 % wide u use about 70/80
10 - Normal, use about 80/90
20 - Wide, use 90/100
-Set according to Passing Style, Tempo, Counter

Time Wasting:
00 - Never, keep playing
10 - Normal, only when they think it's needed
20 - Always, try to defend your lead, or give yourself more room for counters
-Attributes needed are Anticipation, Decisions, Creativity

Defensive Line:
00 - Deep, lowest positioned player will drop back close to goal line
10 - Normal, player will try to stay in his Position
20 - Push up, player will move up the pitch to defend
-Influenced by Mentality and CD

So that's all Team Instructions, I might get back on Player Instructions later.

Cheers, R.

I thought this was the case ONLY when you play on the extremes of the slides (all out defence, all out attack), in wich your player instructions would be overriden. Care to elaborate more on this? Anyone?

Im not saying that what I say here is true, but after watching about 50 games on full match, this is how I think it works:

team Mentality will be either a "will we defend or attack" thing or a risk/reward thing (thanks to wwfan for this) while the individual mentality is used for positioning.

Anyone with similar (or ahum, other) experiences or theories, please report here...

Cheers, R.
