Improving players requires you to be patient and not rush the development. You need to 'aid' rather than 'rush' training imo. What I do is create a few schedules that fit the players and the tactics I am using. Try and improve the important stats that I need this particular player to have. Thats basically it, I also give them a good amount of games and I see a steady inscrease in stats.
