It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Tigh man marking or zonal pressing?

OK

I am not sure what the the difference between tight, man marking, no closing down! or pressing all over with zonal/man?

In terms of tactics, whats the difference, surely they are the same?

Zonal marking is generally the way to go at least until the patch is out because the man marking is a little "buggy" apparently.

If you tight man mark you are telling your man to be shoulder to shoulder marking the forward. Where this falls down is when the Forward makes a sudden break behind you in chase of a direct or long ball (ball played behind you) and then your marker is left in the dust and your up a creek without a paddle.

If you man mark but are not tight marking which is more ideal you are sticking close to the man but far enough away so that if he breaks you will be able to react better.

Zonal means your man will defend that zone and when someone comes into the zone he will mark that person. Tight man marking means when they come into your zone you will do as I said above.

At the moment zonal marking is probably the best for your 2 DC's as it means they don't get pulled out of position creating holes.

Does that help at all?

I don't knwo about the original poster but i always wanted to ask this question:

If you zonal mark and 2 people comes into your zone what do you do? If the answer is mark the guy with the ball, what if neither of them does?

ALso if you choose man mark then EVERYBODY marks someone so how do you get out of position when everybody is marked for the opposition?

your first question: Not totally sure but I think if one had the ball he would mark him but if neither he would probably pick the most threatening.

your second question: If you are man marking a striker and he moves away from the D-line the defender will follow him and that is how the gap is created. Someone else might lose their marker and then exploit it. understand?

I though they acted in the same way!

Tight man marking! your sticking to your opponent, which is sort of closing him down. denying him room to turn or rwtb! However like you said, it will drag him out of position? even if you have him on very low closing down.

Were as Zonal and pressing or Zonal and none pressing will create the same hole? surely, as you could have 2 zonal defenders marking one attacker, which in turn create another hole in the back four?

Sorry if I didn't make anything clear in my above dribble, but there are only a couple of Premiership teams who use Zonal, i.e Liverpool, and I always wonder why people persit with it on this game?
