Just thought I'd put a little not on here, I've always gone Liverpool on all the Football/Champ Manager games since I remember but fancied a change this time, just bought the game and thought I'd look at going someone in the conference north/south.........after browsing through I chose Leigh, god knows why cos after seeing the real life league table I thought I was screwed as they're currently bottom.
My board only expected me to fight bravely against relegation and I thought this would be no problem as I've got 10years + managerial experience over the previous games.
I had a 50k bank balance buit no money to spend on players so I started looking for taking players on trials, and just looking for bringing players in on loan, which I found much harder then anticipated.
I managed to strengthen a little in some areas but kept coming up short and found myself bottem of the league after 10 games with only 4 pts and 1 of them came on the opening day.
I than managed to get a pacey youngster on loan who had very good finishing and heading especially for this league, he turned out to be a real gem and finished the season with 51 goals in 31 games and 58 goals in 36 games in all competitons.
After a 9 game unbeaten spell after the dreadful start I made i looked at the table and was noticed i was only 12pts off the playoffs and thought that if i kept this form up I'd be able to close the gap, anyway my form dropped and i dropped pts here and there but slowly clawed it down to 7pts with 10 games remaining, I managed to get into the last playoff place with 4 games remaing and then slipped 2pts out after my next game, 3 games left to get back in, I won my next 2 games but so did the team above me, then on the last game they drew and I won getting me into the last playoff place on goal difference.
I had Tamworth in the playoffs who missed out on promotion on goal difference to Hinckley, my record wasn't great against the top teams, I always scored goals but my defence was like Newcastle's under Keegan in the 90's, anyway first leg I won 3-1 away, with my super striker netting 2, home leg I was quite confident and won 4-2 being 4-1 up at half time with the same striker netting all four.
I think it was worcestor i had in the final, they finished 3rd and I quickly found myself behind, 3-1 down at half time, oh well another season in the conference north seems on the cards but that didn't bother me as I think I enjoyed this season more then any other on any version of Football manager, after bollocking my players at half time they came out and needless to say they got me back into the game and finished at full time 3-3, extra time backoned and again they scored, 4-3 behind until I equalised in the 120th minute, think I only started receeding after I got this game........pens, well my super striker scored his 58th goal in the comeback but missed the first pen, still ended up winning 3-1 on pens, amazing, the best season I've ever experienced.
Pre-season I tried signing my goal machine striker on a free which got accepted but he turned me down, Sheff Wed was interested in him, then too my surprise his current employers didn't sign him up so I was in there like a rat up a drain pipe, much to my delight no-one else offered him a contract and he signed for me with Leigh being in his favourite clubs, I also signed a few others but still all on free's and a couple of loans, 3 games into my season and my striker has 3 in 3 and we have 4pts on the board but he got injured for 5 months, GUTTED!!!
What do I do now, tried replacing him but have no joy, I'm on the 3rd Jan 2009 now, 22nd, 1pt from saftey, he's just come back from injury so expect to climb out the relegation zone but what a crap time I've had of it, went out of the FA cup to Weat Brom 5-1 away, but got just short of 200k from it, balance is now 200k ish so the future of Leigh RMI is looking good, my aim now is to keep Leigh in the conference end then strengthen in the summer to put up a promtion fight next season, I have been surprised with the step in competetion from the conference north.
At the Mods' Meeting of Sunday, April 25, 2004 it was decided after a lengthy debate that the moritorium on LLM Updates should be lifted for a trial period. As such updates will be allowed in the LLM Forum under the following conditions:
1) LLM updates SHOULD be started in the Lowest available league in any given Nation, single league nations - though not strictly speaking LLM - will be allowed
2) Updates should take the form of a short description of how your Team is doing. Game summaries should be avoided, but may be posted for Cup Finals, Playoff games and important games which have a direct bearing on your Team. eg, relegation deciders.
3) <STRIKE>Only one update thread per month may be started, i.e., If you start an update on the 1st of April you won't be allowed to start another until the 1st of May - only one update ongoing at any time. This specifically includes "game crashed", "got sacked and started afresh" and any other excuse.</STRIKE>
4) Mods will, at their discretion, close updates that appear to be "dead".
5) Any suggestion of non-LLM inpropriety will result in the thread being closed. Refer to LLM Guidelines for more information.
6) It goes without saying that there's no player naming, tactical discussion, and the rest of the acknowledged LLM Forum "Rules". The Spirit and Ethos of LLM should be adhered to, they are there to help you enjoy a "clean" game and not as a shortcut to an easy career. Guidelines are open to general interpretation, but the Mods are experienced enough to decide when interpretation of guidelines is being abused.
7) Only one thread per update, re-titled by a Mod if requested, eg. Change of Club. Any other thread concerning the same career will be closed.
8) The posting of Tables is actively discouraged.
Note: The trial has now been lifted and updates are a permanent fixture at LLM, although each condition must still be followed.
Note Mk II: A minimum of three seasons must be completed in order for a user to start an update thread. We do appreciate that it can take some users a long time to complete three seasons, so if you would like to start an update thread sooner, please email one of the mods for permission
