Very much horses for courses. Wouldn't want to show Thierry Henry inside or David Bentley outside (or inside, come to that. lol). It's why doing your homework and player knowledge on FM is as important - if not more so - as tactical knowledge/research.
Of course, showing them onto their weaker foot, etc, doesn't guarantee results - worrying about positioning can cause your defence problems and actually help the opposing players. So, use judiciously and sparingly.
