Default Editing FAQ

This is a thread for people to add the answers to questions that they know are asked. This is not a thread for people to ask questions in.

Ok. With the intention of helping out newbies and editing virgins, I'd like to set up a thread outlining questions people might have. The resulting thread could go up as a sticky since there isn't an FAQ for the forum yet (to my knowledge!).

Ok... So, if I start with a few misconceptions and frequently asked questions and provide the answers to them that should get the ball rolling, yes?! If anyone wishes to add information about a topic, then please reference an existing thread.

In no particular order.

1: How can I make my own editor for Football Manager?
Generally, this question is asked by people who have no experience whatsoever with programming.
The sad truth for many is that, it's not that easy to make editors. You have to understand the structure of the game and it's not that easy.

In any case, you should be grateful that there are people out there who are willing to make them for you. If there's not a feature in them that you want, ask!

2: I don't want to keep using my CD for Football Manager. Is there something I can download to stop the game from needing it?

The short and sweet answer is no. Even if you find one, we strongly advise that you do not download it. By using this kind of software, you are breaking the licence agreement of the game. Please note, that asking for something like this (known as a no-CD crack) will result in a ban without any warning.

3: When is MCFM / the next version going to be released?
The makers of that particular editor will not publically comment on release dates. Pushing them for a date will only make them annoyed and they will not put as much effort into getting the features you want.

4: What's ArtMoney and can it help me cheat my way to the top?
ArtMoney is an extremely handy utility used by players in lots of different games. It works by editing the memory of the game process (kind of like how MCFM works). You must have the game running for it to work.

5: I have a big ego. Is it possible to add myself into the game?
Just like you, there are thousands of people working in supermarkets around the world believing they were ripped away from the big time. The good news however, is that thanks to the kind people at SI, we can go partly on the way to making that dream come true A.K.A for you.

6: EDT??? DDT??? STI??? TTFN? Do I have some kind of illness?
Feel that your team should have more than £20k to spend and a vote of confidence from the chairman?
Want Växjö BK to have real players instead of those 'virtual' ones?
Well now, we can fix your problems but you'll have to pay for the plastic surgery!
EDT's and DDT's are which Football Manager recognises and uses to carry out various commands for you when you start the game.

7: My editor keeps crashing. What do I do?
Although SI try their hardest to hunt down and fix all the bugs in their software before it's released, nothing can beat the sheer testing that results from thousands and thousands of people buying the game. Therefore, giving SI as much information about what happened can benefit not only you, but SI and anyone else who uses the editor.

Firstly, let's just check that your PC is up to the task. You need to have AT LEAST 512mb of RAM. If you ignore this advice and have a problem, try buying some more RAM first.

If you're unsure of what type of RAM you have, then click the 'Crucial System Scanner' in the resources section for this question below.

If you have enough RAM and encounter this problem, then you can help us by telling us precisely what you were doing at the time. Such as:

Your general PC spec (if you don't know, don't worry)

What programs were open at the time of the incident?

Could you replicate the problem or was it a one off occurance?

Have you used any third party updates/utilities? (One that didn't come with the game).

Did the error happen in the editor or in the game after editing the database?

What did you do exactly?

EG:
Quote:
Editor opened.
Opened the db.
Searched for 'Man Utd' in the 'Club' section.
Selected 'Finances'.
Clicked 'Loans' and selected the top loan.
Clicked Remove.
Editor froze. Could not click. No error.
