It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Isolated Striker problem...

Over the 2 1/2 season I've played I've used a 4-4-2 formation for most of it...

But... I've also tried two different formations, neither of which have really worked. The first was a sort of last seasons Chelsea tactic, a 4-3-3 / 4-5-1, with 2 wingers (robben/duff) supporting 1 central striker (i'm not playing as Chelsea).

The most recent one I've tried is 4-2-3-1, but with both formations the single striker seems to get too isolated, and even with the right attributes, he fails to retain possesion enough to bring other players into the game as he just gets crowded by 2-3 defenders all the time.

So to my question... have any of you found a single striker formation/tactic that works well for you????

Thanks

Things to considers are making sure the midfield have time to move up the pitch. Maybe have your DMC (if you have one) hold up the ball. The striker can do this as well of course.
I would also put forward runs to rarely.
Lastly, you can also move the midfielders up forward together with the ball. This means short passing (pass your way up the field) and/or play the ball to you midfielders and have them dribble to the byline. This should also allow the midfield to come forward (give them often forward runs).

Let me know if you notice a difference, this is just my theory

Thanks, I'll tinker with the player instructions and see if it improves things.

I tried this out because I've quite a few good attacking midfielders/wingers, but I'm lacking in quality strikers.
