Im an average club in the league but the tactics are doing my head in, i just can't seem to get a decent run going. Are there any tips for a LLM in England?
I'm definitely no expert, but I'm having a pretty decent season with Fisher Athletic at the moment (no money, were predicted to go down, but now I'm going into my last 10 games and I'm third and gunning for promotion).
Anyway, I've found in the fag-end of the football pyramid, abide by these principles:
-Always play two pacey strikers up front. No one in the Conference N/S seem to have defenders with any pace, so exploit this and get yourself some fast strikers/forwards. This strategy is especially effective when you tick counter-attack.
-Avoid having fullbacks on 'make forward runs' as its very rare in this end of the league that you'll have fullbacks with the pace and off the ball/positioning stats to avoid being caught out of position. You'll get seriously punished by teams with fast wingers if you do (perhaps man mark the wingers with your fullbacks? I've not tried it myself).
-Strength, strength, strength. Whereas all your attacking palyers should be fast, make sure all your defensive players are strong. In fact, when playing LLM, I always look at a players physical stats rather than technical/mental stats as I think they're more important at this level. This end of football is all about playing a dirty, physical game.
-Keep it simple. Don't try and reinvent the wheel tactically. Your players wont have the mental or technical stats to fulfill such ambitions and will end up running about like headless chickens. Avoid short passing, offside trap, swap positions, etc, etc. I personally have my attacking players close down hard, whilst have my defensive players stand off more. I play a very direct style in order to make the best of my pacey strikers. Oh, and make sure you have a big strong, hard tackling DMC to scare the sh*t out of the opposition.
I'm also playing Fisher Athletic. I've had good success (4th place at midseason one) by playing a counter-attacking 4-4-2 (straight farrows for wingers to the AML/AMR positions, diagonal farrow to the AMC for my MCa, and diagonal barrow to the DMC for my MCd).
Defensively, I play a deep line and very passive defense (low closing down) in order to pack the defense and make the opposition string passes together to beat me. My forwards play high and the resulting counterattacks as I suck in the opposition can be very deadly.
That's pretty much identical to my system  . Apart from I play three MC's, the two on each side with farrows going to AML/AMR, and the middle MC has a farrow to AMC. I also have a DMC with no arrows at all.
As you can see, I like to pack the middle of the field. I have my instructions set to 'play through the middle', so it's pretty much defender gets the ball, knocks it to one of the midfield, who tries to chip it over their defences head so my pacey striker can latch onto it.
I've tried using a big target man type player, but it just wasn't working. All of my crossing stats are rubbish, so I'm not gonna try and get goals from the air.
Getting your defenders to stay back is essential as my Thurrock team have been caughgt on the break countless times.
Pace up front is a good suggestion, also keep it simple, don't confuse the palyers by expecting them to make great runs into the box as it ain't going to happen, keep it simple, hoof it up front to the target man and have a pacey striker as well.
It is a very hard league though as there is just no quality.
My Fisher side are rarely caught out these days. Early on it was a problem as I had the slider in the 12 range. Now that I put it down around 6 I rarely fall prey to counter-attacks. Goals scored against me are usually of the corner/fk variety or my poor central defenders losing out on a header.
I also have my slider on the narrow side, but for whatever reason my attacks are still often wide, which perhaps is do to their counter-attacking nature.

Wow, thank you!
I was looking for help for my tactic in Dafuge's challenge. You really helped me alot. I've never been a tactical magician tbh, not really a LLM player. But in 07 i love LLM! The first game with my new tactic!
The instructions i used - My back 4 had closing down 1 notch just before Rarely - No forward runs and no crossing for the FBs.
Really have to thank you, i used a lot of your input in this thread. This is my third time (2 previous ones with Carshalton) i am very hopefull of this one.
