Hi there,
i normally never ask for advice on tactics, since i really like it to create my own.
But on this one I never seem to get the result i want:
What i'm looking for is a tactic with patience posession football, to wait for chances.
Sounds a bit like the Italian style, like Milan.
What i _suppose_ to put in my tactics:
a 4-4-2 system with no arrows at all. This will make sure everyone stays together on their lines, therefore always be available for passing.
A narrow playing style, giving away as little as possible space and again, make sure everyone is available to recieve a pass.
Slow playing style, so there won't be hasty decisions in passing or moving.
No counter-attack, same reason as above.
Defence pushing way up, to, again, leave little space.
And finally, no creative freedom as well, to make sure everyone keeps their positions.
What I want to archieve is when you up a one or a few goals, not to give away the ball. "As long you have the ball, the oppenent can't score".
Ive been trying to create something like this as well. Not that Milan are scoring bucketload of goals nowadays though..
However, what I had in mind, is instead of keeping the players really close together, I'd rather spread them out a bit to make it more difficult for the opponent to close you down. If they do that, you need players that can pass the ball around real quickly, otherwise they lose the ball.
Apart from that, it might be worth to split the two central midfielders a bit (using rarely/often forward runs) to give better passing option. In theory, anyway.. Also make sure to not play a too high mentality, as the team will look to push forward too often then.
I've tried this tactic. Won 2-4 away at Galatasaray with a team comparable to Palermo.
Good keeper, decent defence, good (scoring) midfield and 2 attackers, one deep, one lowered, to be in the 'gap' between opposite defence and midfield.
Two goals, one a lucky header from the tall striker. (i don't have good heading defence :S).
And one which changed my tactics: a totally left-alone right midfielder, who was on the edge of the box, free to score.
Used tactics:
4-4-2, no arrows
normal mentality
low creative
passing short
narrow
normal time wasting
closing down rarely
tackling hard
pushing up hard
--
tight marking
off side
all players have individual almost nothing set, except the two CB (very defending)
and all players 'run forward'/'run with ball' to mixed. (instead of 'often')
After the goal from the rightmid (me leading 2-3)
I switched wideness to normal.
Tempo to quick
passing direct
Controlled pretty much of the game, and scored another one.
But possession was only 52% (me) to 48 (them).
