It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

If you want your defenders to stop charging forward when the opposition is attacking, try adding some Barrows to them. I found it works great on my DL and DR, stopped a lot of the crosses that score, but I also use it occasionally on my DCs.

Its the defencive mistakes I can't cope with. I have lost count of the number of goals scored against me by simple back passes going to the opposition, or being intercepted when my goal keeper is set to belt them up field (distribute to my target man, the striker)

Where is the spell checker on this forum?

All I can say is it's a good job I have Reina or I'd be doing a lot worse than 6th.

Well I just drew 2-2 with Chelski away. It was a good defensive performance, the first in a while.

I put some barrows on Agger and Hyypia (Carragher is injured, as is half my squad), and it seemed to work pretty well.

Their first goal was Reina's fault for starting to come out for a loose ball, then just stopping in no man's land while Drogba strolled on to the ball and chipped him. The second was a suicidal backpass by Gerrard and in no way my defences fault.
I did have Luis Garcia sent off when it was 1-1 in the 70th minute, and managed to take the lead despite my disadvantage. Putting Kewell and Esposito in midfield worked a treat, as with their dribbling, Chelsea couldn't get the ball off them. It helped relieve pressure on my defence I think. Sissoko was also amazing in DM and made 4 key tackles (the most I've ever seen in a single game on FM 2007 I think).

Damn lack of edit function.

I forgot to mention I also had Sissoko with a barrow taking him into the central defence position. His athleticism and height at the back really helped a lot for dealing with their relentless crosses.

Glad those Barrows did the trick. There is a very good post on them from Cleon somewhere.

They stopped my defence leaking, if only they would work on my Bedroom radiator, I've just got home to find I have a swamp for a carpet and no plumber until tomorrow :-(

Glad its not just me who is getting very bad back passes.

Bloody plumbers. Never around when you need them. You can bet they'll be around for all too long when you're paying them by the hour tomorrow though

Well, after a few games of good, or at least not bad defending my defenders are back to being idiots.
I just wish they were bad defenders, then at least there would be a reason for it.
They are now standing on the wrong side of attackers, just enough so as to play them onside, but not be able to stop them getting a clean run at goal if they get the ball passed to them.

I give up. FM has finally beat me. My players don't listen to my instructions, and with a team as good as Liverpool I'm getting outplayed and outclassed by teams such as Wigan, Fulham and Blackburn.
Even instructions as simple as telling my keeper to pass it short rather than randomly hoof it up the pitch every time he gets it are being ignored.
And with a midfield full of players with 17+ passing I never get more than 45% of the possession even when playing a short passing game and slowing the tempo.

I'm going to go back to FM06 until they fix this one.

Premiership football really doesn't suit a slow tempo, opposition tend to get stuck in and you are inviting players to dawdle on the ball, hence why your midfielders get caught out and you lose possesion, I wouldn't say the AI has you beat but merely suggest you employ a more contempary premiership approach

As the first few posters noted, there is a patch soon and I will wait for that before I load up 07 again.
I like 06. My players listen to me.
