Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default 4-1-2-2-1

Has anyone got a 4-1-2-2-1 working yet? I ahve managed to get nothing working. Starting with this Chelsea esque formation that I have always used since FM 05. I couldnt get it working so moved onto 4-4-2 with just as little success I am determined to get my favoured formation working.

In previous versions ive gone for high pressure, high D-Line trying to re-win the ball quickly. But so far this version I manage very little shots (ussually 5-10, ussually around 7) a match where opponets manage a hugh number of chance (10-15).

So any ideas how to successfully get this formation working?

I've got some ok results with it (as Arsenal) when I've used it in games I'd expect to get bullied in (bolton away) or games where I'm the weaker side or just want to avoid defeat (CL, Chelsea, Utd).

Essentially I just use it as a way to dominate midfield with a slow tempo and short passing, working the ball side to side without too many players looking to burst in behind - pretty much how Arsenal use it irl.

I think it's too negative to play at home personally as the striker can get very isolated upfront when the midfield is forced back to defend, even when midfield is on attacking mentality and no barrows.

Right I thought I would bring up my old thread after a dire run of form cost me promotion. After previously 5 defeats all season I managed to lose 9 of the last 13. Im gonna post all my instructions so people can knit pick and help me understand what im doing wrong.

Bare in mind I tweek individual player instructions (run with ball/through balls etc) depending on players stats.
Fullback
Centre Back
Defensive Midfielder Midfield D Midfielder A Winger Striker

The way I want my formation to play is the DC and DMC stay back at nearly all times while the fullbacks only attack when neccisairly. The MCD is meant to be the work hard midfielder who does all the donkey work for the MCA. The wingers are fast and pacey.

My overall plan is to control possession and stop the opposition from creating anything of note.

Now thanks in advance, any suggestions welcome

Forgot to add the way im playing the formation is as the title 4-1-2-2-1 with the 2 wingers (AMR-AML) have backward arrows to MR/ML. Im thinking this isnt allowing them to get in the game much.

Have you read all of my thread? Its got lots of ideas etc you can try in it and plays pretty much how you want this one too. Thats all the advice I can give really as theres nothing much to help you with. Due to the lack of info about the settings and instructions you have used already.

If you need help you need to be as detailed as possible
