It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Right

playing Billy Jones as DR and Gerard Pique ad DCr. now whenever there is a long kick or punt toward the opposition striker, for some reason Billy goes for the header instead of Pique, even though 9 times out of 10 the striker at who the ball is aimed is closer to Pique. and its not like Billys better than Pique in the air

even though Billy does end up winning most of these headers, if they then fall to the opposition then the winger Billy was supposed to be marking is free, and this is turning into a huge problem for me

tried increasing width to first notch wide but didnt make much of a difference. btw, I play Billy as DR with a barrow, mentality 9, CF little, full FR and CB, and a closing down of btw 10-12

how do I make Pique go for those headers instead of Billy?

I have Jones too and occasionally play him at right back, although he's naturally a centre back so I suppose he's inclined to drift in sometimes. Maybe try setting his position training to DR. Reducing his closing down may also help.

Not convinced its a problem with Jones though, I've noticed that the fullbacks tend to get sucked into the centre far to often in general, particularly when the opposition are on the counter. I mean, a DR set to zonal marking should surely mark the opposing left winger, or at least cover his zone of the pitch. Rather than double marking the opposition striker.

Karan a bit more info would help....I'm assuming you use a 442.. what is your defensive line? What is CB?

I do know that a similar sounding problem was included in the bugs forum, and if what you have is happening, then go to the thread in the bugs forum, upload your save game..indicate in which match the bug occurred, and if possible upload a pkm. If this is a bug, there might be time to get it into the changlist. But it depends on how pervasive this bug is. Personally it happens to me but rarely. But the only way to find out is to upload your pkm.

The thread starter is nonleague.

This happens to me too with Jones but not just him. Also with Warnock and whoever I play in the fullback position really.

It's really annoying and I don't think I should have to alter unrelated instructions (like closing down) just to get them to stop. Not that it helps anyway.

It's not unrelated though. Closing down is how likely the player is to go for the ball. Lowering the FBs closing down would, arguably, stop him going for the ball.

Perhaps the mentality of the FB is too high as well. That would make him more inclined to go for the ball to start an attack and go infront of the CB. Worth fiddling a bit more, I reckon.

Could this also be a knock on effect of setting your DR with a bit higher creative freedom?

When I am trying to set my DR's up as wingbacks, I have encountered this problem of them loosing position. It happens more often when I give them normal to much creative freedom and an attacking mentality.

I wasn't clear in my last post, I find it happens if I put them on the middle setting for creative freedom, and it seems to get worse as i move the bar towards much. I tend to knock it to the left a couple of steps and it helps stop them chasing after the ball.

I did give them a lot of freedom for a while to see what would happen, bad idea. I had them both in DM positions at one point.

Which means you'll probably improve as a manager. If you blame everything on bugs then you'll never get anywhere.
